Do we still have Tariffs on India for this very thing?

Denver and other front range cities in Colorado are about as boxed in as you can get, and yet we've done a great job building lots more housing recently, and as a result lowering rents (finally).

Have frequently been frustrated by the fact the Colorado Dems have not gotten more kudos in recent years for lifting so many regulations to get more housing built. It has helped the rents in this state so much.

Seen any polling on 134? If national polling is to be believed roughly 45% of Dems oppose trans women in women's competitive sports. But curious how that will translate to this.

School districts respond to racist incidents at high school football games
Families from two Colorado Springs high schools say they were subjected to racist comments during football games against Lutheran High School, a private school in Parker, just south of Denver.

Pretty appalling story. As white nationalism becomes a bigger part of the right wing identity I'd expect to keep seeing more of this. @friendlyatheist.com might find this interesting. Know the school they were supposed to play this weekend is not playing now. www.denverpost.com/2026/10/07/l...

Not sure I can count the times on The Gazette's FB page I've pointed out that CSI is very right leaning, although always introduced by The Gazette as Non Partisan.

Always been curious where Vetrinary Assistant's end up? Seems like more and more that job is requiring some post secondary education, and from what I know seems to pay horribly due to so many wanting to do it.

Going to hear Jack Smith speak next week. Might have a chance to ask a question. What is the best question you would ask him if you had the chance?

I will say I agree, but it feels to me like becoming a life long learner is way more important. Not sure how much history from school I even remember, but I have read probably 2 history books a year as an adult which has been invaluable to being a better citizen.

It's behavior like this that is why minumum wage has not passed federally for 20 years. Encourage people to not vote democrat, because that will make things better. Feels like Jill Stein is in the house, pulling votes away, and then complaining about the damage she caused.

Seriously why the both sides childish arguments? At the federal level one party has tried to raise the minumum wage, the other has stopped them every time. It's garbage arguments like this that make people think both parties are the same.

The media paradox of competence. Something Democrats have to do a better job of criticizing the media about. When a politician is slightly more competent, significantly smaller items become far larger issues that get vastly more media coverage and to the unsophisticated news consumer look larger.

Kind of missed my point that Republican's are getting off too easy. They are complicit. Not disagreeing with a word you say, but for many unsophisticated voters, there it not nearly enough blame going on these standard Republican policies.

Why keep saying Trump rather than Republican? At least on healthcare, virtually all of this originated in the House and Senate from Republicans and Trump simply signed it. On healthcare, Republicans won't be fixed when Trump is gone.

And looking closer, it may just be that although lean hog prices are pretty cheap compared to post pandemic numbers. They are still only about average when looking at pre-pandemic prices.

What I don't understand is why pork ribs and shoulder have not gone down in the store, or even got close to what they used to cost. Despite hog prices being pretty cheap these days.

Facebook is the one that just never seems right to me, no mattter what I do, FB likes to feed me 10 right wing crazies pages. Seems like if I block 10 of them they go away for the day, but in a day I'll have to block 10 more to get rid of them.

What I tell people is there are so many things working against the economy right now, what will set off a downside could be anything. What I dread is that it waits until the next President is elected.

Perhaps if the NCBA had come out a bit more strongly opposed to the SNAP cuts in the Big Beautiful Bill, they'd have had more luck.

Facism? They also had price controls. The parallels today to the lead up to WW2 that @braddelong.bsky.social mentions in his book Slouching Towards Utopia as both Communism (really-existing socialism) and Fascism were both reactions to unbridled capitalism has just been glaring as of late.

It is fascinating how delusional some are in thinking the only issue in Israel is Netanyahu, and totally ignore how conservative Israel has shifted in recent years. Netanyahu with his 18 years as PM is not an outlier in Israel, but American supporters at any cost, hope many aren't paying attention.

Do note, I never said people were not talking about it. But there is a difference between talking about it, and gaining messaging traction through how they are talking about it.
000
Greg Motter @gregmotter.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
I think the most surprising thing here is that no Democratic politician has learned to message on this (states that pay less taxes are getting more federal funding) as a precedent, promising to follow the precedent until congress presents bipartisan legislation to keep it from happening again.

The first options are not in food deserts. They will put other stores out of business.

Greg Motter @gregmotter.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
Hard for me not to think Government run grocery stores that sell staples will not actually reduce the number of other grocery stores nearby, thus making the problem even worse in the long run. I think some type of couponing system that gave a discount on staples locally would be far more efficient.

Do think one of Bernie's biggest failures was conflating Democratic Socialism with Social Democrats. I've had so many people who were big Bernie supporters say that Democratic Socialists don't support public ownership of companies. We're not doing ourselves any favors continuing to conflate the 2.

Funny thing is Polis, until he went crazy lately probably had the best case around housing of everyone. Vacancy rates mostly in the 6%+ range and rents actually falling in some parts of the state.

How many of those things were worse after his tenure than before? Don't get me wrong, CA is still just awful on the housing front (everything you mentioned is housing related). What's sad is several likely to run have policies far worse than what he's tried to push for regarding housing.
