Fuel prices today in Arbuckle California. I’ve never seen a $2.70 split between gas and diesel.

Can't believe it took me this long to get back to doing something I love, and I can't wait to do more! I didn't get any photos this weekend, but here's one of me surfing in Rhosilli Wales from back in the day.

I've done a lot of flat water kayaking since, but not whitewater--until this weekend. Took a 2-day class on the American River. Boats have changed, techniques have changed, and my body has changed, but wow was it fun! (and the river was crowded)

34 years ago I joined the University of East Anglia Canoe Club in Norwich England and learned to whitewater kayak. Had an amazing year running rivers and surfing the ocean. Sadly I didn't keep it up when I got home. Kayaks were too expensive and I didn't have anyone to go with.

I’ve planted 2 hedgerows of California native plants on our farm over the last couple years and they are my favorite parts of the farm.

Just got back from a week on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Absolutely spectacular place! Kayaking in a fjord has long been a bucket list item for us. So grateful to have been able to experience it, while also mourning how fast this landscape is changing.

Today I learned that mammatus clouds are also called "udder clouds." So of course I had to compare them to actual udders.

My life sucks right now. So I'm going to try posting things that make me happy, which is mostly the natural world. This is a western aphideater on a native California rose on our farm. It looks like a wasp or bee, but it's actually a fly. The adults eat nectar, but the larvae eat aphids.
