Best of luck! Soapcalc, everything to 120F then stick blender. It makes me so happy whenever you do this or teach it!

Garden season definitely over, pottery season begins again. Reskilling by throwing a bunch of agateware for a studio fundraiser. This new handle shape is excellent. #PlainsmanM390 #PlainsmanM340 #Agateware #Pottery #WinterHobbies #DrivenIntoTheDirt

Suspect I'm too autistic to use this advice; between "a picture is worth a thousand words" and everyone noticing different things in pictures it's hard for me. Bonus of alt text is that I can steer attention, but it definitely does lose a ton of contextual detail. To do correctly I'd write pages.

Too unwell to get out of bed today except for the bathroom. My cats were helping me rest but they went outside for a break. The air coming in the windows smells like it's going to rain.

I have been blessed beyond belief by the cat distribution system. 💚💚💚💚

010

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

I've been ultra overcapacity, and will continue to be next week. Last week was drs appts, this week was loading the roostermobile for butcher, next week is animals to the vet. I'm very lucky Siri is there to keep me in bed otherwise. It would be lonely and awful otherwise. #DisabledHomesteading

Figures that after this I'd go getting starry-eyed about the ready to sew Harper bloomers. I guess one nice thing about being on disability is I can kinda just wear dresses all the time.

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

Sadly adding steps doesn't help me much either. I figure it's like anything else: sometimes my accommodation needs don't fit into specific spaces.

110

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

Yeah, most of my life I relied on hips being bigger than waist, so the waist just could not slide down, and the legs and hips could be nice and loose and the waistband kinda slide up and down to accommodate the sitting/standing changes to my waist. So that probably is a difference.

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

I'm just not sure trousers will actually stay up on this shape! I wish I had the brain wherewithal to do the coquelicot skirt in Velcro, I feel like that would if nothing else allow me some flexibility.

Been having serious trouble cognitively so no alt text, so no pictures. Sigh.

Size changes I think I could handle, but going from much bigger hips and smaller waist to larger waist and smaller hips I can't even figure out... Like, can I wear pants anymore at all? Maybe not? Luckily I'm kinda trending towards "a couple rectangles with some gores and a gusset" single garments

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 31/07/2025

I think this is the thing I'm mosr unhappy about with the significant change of my body shape -- not the size change but the proportion change that throws all my old drug way off

Scouring cotton shirts (white cotton really is as gross as they say), picking scentless chamomile flowers, and simmering them. Then tannin and alum, then dyeing. I like working with linen way better but this was an experiment. #NaturalDyeing #UseYourWeeds #DyeExperiments

I'm mostly ok with "people being wrong on the Internet" EXCEPT folks who share suicide hotline memes without fact checking them. Someone fighting to live may have only enough energy to make one call, and if they're taking that number from your post it better be accurate. Your false info can kill.

However Demon just isn't having the crate. I think partly because he isn't treat motivated.

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 02/07/2025

Learning positive reinforcement etc to handle the animals is also kind of reparenting myself, and also is an excellent way of feeling humble and part of my animals as a family rather than just frustrated and impotent in charge. It helps that the LGDs do the same to me, those are smart cookies.

I'm always very grateful to my past self for making crates exciting snack sources for several weeks a year kinda randomly. It makes getting the cats to the vet so much easier, they line up to go in. Except Demon, who's a problem. 🐈🐱😸 #GoodAnimalCare #ThinkingAhead #Cats

I have a little grain grinder I use that works really well. However, my threshing method was "rub between hands while wearing rubber gloves" and then winnow in front of a fan and that wasn't great. I saw a drill, rod, chain & bucket method I want to try next.

110

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 01/07/2025

Thank you, and likewise! We get to -40 overwinter here so I was skeptical, but it looks way better than my spring wheat. I'm so happy. :) Do you have a threshing plan?

110

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 01/07/2025

In the interval I learned that there's both a dogs vomit and a wolf's milk slime mold.

120

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 01/07/2025

I know it's not a fungus if it's a slime mold but just guessing at a hashtag for confirmation

020

Erin Greenstorm @greenstormblue.bsky.social · 01/07/2025

I have a second slime mold! It's neat when new creatures come to live here. Especially when they're an indicator of some middle stages of biomass breakdown. #FungusID please? 💛🌱

It's interesting because I'm definitely a texture seeker for foods in many ways, especially chewy/slimy/QQ. And I do love mint chocolate chip ice cream except for that texture.

More garden pictures: the wild columbine is starting, the aspen borers progress, somehow the birds didn't eat all my sweet ciciley and it's about to flower-- but as you see they loved the borage right beside it. Apparently the ducks are the only animal that can kill borage. 🌱 #NorthernGardening

I just want 'ai' to go away. The simultaneous widespread poisoning of knowledge; attempt to end-run professions that cultivate critical thinking; and sucking the joy out of everything while ramming unwanted technology down our throats is so exhausting. I just can't anymore.
