In Denmark, nitrogen from intensive agriculture is choking the life out of coastal waters Today Greenpeace activists hung a banner from Copenhagen's biggest agribusiness lobby reading "HERE THE DEAD FJORDS BEGIN" Politicians: protect people's health and the environment over corporate profit!
Greenpeace Nordic activists peacefully protest at the headquarters of the lobbying organization Danish Agriculture & Food Council in Copenhagen, Denmark. The activists have climbed up and raised a red warning flag on the flagpole and hung a large banner over the façade with the message: “Here the dead fjords begin.” The protest draws a straight line from the lobbying organization to the dying fjords and waters that are under pressure from oxygen depletion.
Greenpeace argues that the organization has for years misled agriculture’s significant role in nitrogen pollution of the marine environment to avoid taking responsibility. Greenpeace is calling on politicians to cut the close ties with Danish Agriculture & Food Council and implement strict regulations to reduce nitrogen emissions from fertilizers and manure into the aquatic environment.
