I'm similar - I have a V8 Camaro but I only drive it on weekends or if the weather is really nice, the rest of the time I drive my other car. Which, admittedly, is a truck with a Hemi V8 but same basic principle, right ?

... the standard fiat drive cycle is per the picture below, do that then take for testing. If the check engine light comes back on then leave the car to dry for a good while (like a week or two) and try again. Additionally, not all check engine codes are emissions failures, it depends on the code.

If you don't have comprehensive then the insurance will not pay - I would get the codes cleared, the person clearing the codes will also be able to tell you if the car is reporting 'ready' or 'not ready' for emissions testing. If it is ready then you are good to go, if it is not ready then ...

AlfaOBD will clear the codes but the car may still not pass emissions testing until the it has been run for long enough - after codes are cleared the ECU will report 'not ready for testing' until it has run for around 20-30 miles at speed as some faults do not show immediately on start up.
