[uspol nokings pig mask] At Portland OR Waterfront Park, listening to Senator Merkley talk about stuff #nokings #portland
Side view of a chubby man in a dark business suit and a pig mask that covers his whole head. On the cheek of the mask is the word "Oligarch" or maybe "Oligarchy"; the end of the word is not clear. The neck of the pig is ragged with red edges. The eyes look hollow with a streak of red going down to the chin. This is probably a Halloween mask. It seems impractical for piggy fetish sex. Well. If you do use it for piggy fetish sex, take photos.

Beyond the pig man are various signs like "I Love America", "First Unitarian Portland", "Lock Them Up", held by people who are mostly Pixelated-Americans, a fast growing ethnic group that's tolerated by the indigenous coyotes because the newcomers often drop Chicken Caesar Wraps in convenient locations.

Also in the background, partially hidden by leaves, is someone in an Inflatable Frog Costume. These frogs are an icon in Pixelated-American culture. The frogs are Holy Protectors, or maybe Chartered Accountants; the scripture is contested. This one appears to be both.

Scan of a photo from 1976, tinted greenish-yellow with age.

In front of a covered wagon with the words "New Jersey" on its canopy, there is a family of four. Dad has glasses, a white shirt with a glasses case in the breast pocket, and dark slacks. Mom is wearing a colorful patterned blouse, a short dark skirt, and white strap sandals. She's holding up a toddler wearing a light-colored onesie. Next to her stands a preteen boy wearing dark pants and a shirt that looks like it has yellow and white horizontal stripes, but I remember it as green. It's definitely not black and blue; that comes later.

Most of the people here were made in Taiwan, back when Taiwan was known as a source of cheap mass-produced trinkets, and not so much the chip-manufacturing powerhouse it is today. The toddler was made in the USA, so he lacks the advanced computer technology of his gay furry brother. Despite that, this anchor baby has successfully hidden in plain sight, ready to become US president and subvert the American Dream of white-guy democracy. Don't tell him; it's going to be a surprise.

The moment after eating shrooms when you realize that you yourself are a shroom and you've just committed cannibalism.
Photo at the Portland riverfront of a rectangular metal fence post with scrubbed graffiti and a sticker of a tall mushroom with a purple cap with white dots. The stem of the mushroom has a face with bloodshot eyes, angry eyebrows, and a square-ish mouth open in a toothy scream. Letters scrawled down the post read SALT LICK, which indicates this is a spot for casual sexual encounters with Navy officers known as "smurfs", during Fleet Week.

from a talk by Audrey Tang
So, as the Ministry of Digital Affairs, we tried something different. In March 2024 we launched the Alignment Assembly on information integrity by sending 200,000 text messages to random numbers around Taiwan. We call it a lottocracy: if you win the lottery of receiving the SMS, you become a representative in the assembly — like a juror — to steer the advertisement-recommendation system together. We received thousands of valid responses. Then, by stratified random sampling, we selected 447 people mirroring our population — the same demographic breakdown by gender, education, place of residence, occupation, and so on.

First, those respondents deliberated online. Each person faced nine others at a virtual table — tables of 10, in 44 small groups. The Civic AI system sat in each room not as a judge, but as an enhanced chess clock with manners: showing transcripts, summarising, reminding quiet people to speak up, limiting interruptions to five seconds and so on. There was only one rule: each table must find something that leaves everyone feeling they can live with it. Consent, if not consensus, which means the most drastic proposals never rise above the table level. We only surfaced ideas that reached this rough consensus among the 10 people.

Possum girl sticker at the Willamette River in Portland Oregon
Photo of a metal railing at a riverfront walking path. On a vertical post, there is a sticker of an anthropomorphic possum, bipedal, wearing a gray apron dress with floral patterns. Her tail fades from bright pink to light gray and sticks out behind her in a slight upward curl. Her hands are clasped in front of her. The hair on her head is purple, and she's looking slightly to the left with a neutral expression. Maybe she's annoyed but trying not to show it.

Behind the railing, the view of the river is blocked by a clump of quaking aspen on its migration south. Normally, aspen move too slowly to be captured by modern fast-scan digital cameras, but this particular subspecies has developed photogenic photosynthesis in response to the environmental pressures of Portland's teargas twisters.

the deontological shopping mall known as Lloyd Center in Portland Oregon
A round ice-skating rink, framed by two levels of round balconies and a square skylight, inside a dying shopping mall. A colorful kiosk in the foreground has paused its exodus to watch the dozen or so people and children still skating in the rink in celebration of the impending death of the mall.An empty cubical area about 4 meters wide, where a shop used to be, with some exposed wires dangling from the ceiling and a spotlight shining at a point where dark flooring meets white floor tiles. In front, some strips of yellow tape on the ground appear to mark a place where a lantern-headed stick figure was found decapitated.

went to Waterfront Park where the cherry trees are blossoming and found this commemorative plaque
Photo of the type of informational plaque on a pedestal that you see in parks. This one is rusted and blank. Whatever it was originally intended for is unclear. But someone has written in blue acrylic: "I (heart) drinking pee :3"

There's also a sticker of Hello Kitty on a scooter, and a graffiti scrawl in white chalk that looks like a parade of geometric shapes.

In the background is a tree trunk that's obviously fake, because it doesn't have the yellow paint signature that park rangers apply to indicate that the tree is not AI-generated.

Yesterday, I (Taiwanese-American) went to the bank with Chris (Virginia-American) to do some normal joint-account-in-Portland things. The waiting area was empty except for a brown-skinned boy, maybe 5yo, playing with a spinny chair. I played with another spinny chair for a bit. My intuition suggested the boy's ancestry was South Asian, but I don't really know. He briefly spoke plain English to me about the chairs.

When a bank agent was available and led us to her cubicle, another agent brought in an extra chair and sat down the kid with a coloring page and crayons. That seemed to me a little odd, but sure, whatever. Sometimes people bring their kids to work. He was somewhat annoyingly talkative during a speakerphone call, but whatever.

At a lull in the procedure, the bank agent asked, how old is the kid? Chris responded, I have no idea. He's not your kid? Totally a sit-com moment.

Excepts from the climax of Melania
“Melania,” he said with difficulty, as if he were saying the name for the first time, “I believe we have much to discuss.”

“Discuss?” she asked suggestively, taking a step towards the crusading investigator. “But Director, I think we both know why you’re here.”

Comey’s eyes widened as though someone had just turned out the lights.

“You want to hear my confession,” Melania said, smiling at Comey as his face returned to its serious demeanor.

“That’s right,” he said, not taking his eyes from hers.

“Then let me confess, Director.” She took another step towards him, and he had to tilt his head at a steep downward angle now. “I confess… I want your cock.”

In a single motion, she shed her trench coat, revealing a lacy red two-piece lingerie set (from Agent Provocateur) underneath. She ran a hand over her breasts, tracing it down her taut midsection and finally down to the warm flesh between her legs.Melania couldn’t take it any longer. She had to know what lay below. Hurriedly, she dropped her hands to his belt, quickly working its black leather through the golden clasp. When she fed the last of it through she heard the metal clasp clang against itself like a tiny bell, signalling it was open season. She undid the buttons of his pants as his arms stroked her back. Finally, she unzipped his long fly and dropped to her knees.

Comey’s member resembled the man, in that it was gargantuanly long. But unlike its owner, who was thin and gaunt, it was thick and rope-like. Melania laid her hands upon it, one after the other, as one might hold a baseball bat, and felt its magic energy. She found that it was so thick she couldn’t close her hands, couldn’t touch her fingertips together. She stroked the firm rod, feeling its strength in her hands. She was drawn to it and found herself opening wide to place her mouth around its fleshy tip. Comey bent his head back and looked at the ceiling, and though Melania couldn’t see his face, she knew that his eyes were rolling into the back of his head.“Fuck me, FBI Director James Comey!” she shouted at the top of her lungs. “FUCK ME!”

“Tell me what I want to know!” he bellowed, laboring to get the breath out, so committed to the act. “What did Putin do? WHAT. DID. PUTIN. DO?”

He punctuated each word with an epic thrust.

But Comey, Melania knew, would never get the answer.

Inside her, the warmth had been stirring, growing. She had felt it start at her midsection. She could feel her abdomen burning, felt the rift inside her forming. She was nearly there now, she could see the end coming.

Comey’s epic thrusts continued, and she could feel him inside her growing even harder. She knew that he was close, that they were both close, approaching the moment of delivery. He pounded on, the finish line in sight.

“Tell me!” he shouted. “Tell me!”The naked man watched in horror as the huge, coriaceous wings flapped, and in a single, mighty wave, brought Melania out from under Comey and up to the ceiling. He could see her clearly now, even if he didn’t believe his eyes. The woman, now a flying torso, floated above him, her entrails dangling from her body, her face contorted into a hideous devil.

“What… what… are you?!” he stammered.

She laughed a vile cackle, and for a moment she thought she heard a bit of the old woman who had transformed her all those years ago.

“I am the manananggal!” she declared. “And you, James Comey, are no more.”

Comey backed away in a half-hearted attempt to distance himself from her. In his heart, she imagined, he knew it was hopeless. He knew that he was now looking at the beast that would end him.

“But… but…” he tried in vain to form a sentence.

“Yes,” she said, sardonically, “I’m sure you would have liked that.”

A composite of several screenshots. The first one shows the text "This is my hole" with keyboard auto-complete suggestions beneath. The text suggestions are "number" and "in". The emoji suggestions are the hole emoji and the golf emoji.

The second screenshot is the same, except the hole emoji is replaced with the red heart emoji.

Below are snippets showing different varieties of heart emoji suggestions: growing heart, two hearts, revolving hearts.

This particular sequence of heart emojis is known as the Junji Fault sequence, named after the Pulitzer-Prize-winning mathematician Junji Amigara, who proved that the limit of emojis in any finite semigroup chat is bounded by the valentine cardinalities exchanged by the singleton members of the chat.

Anarchy near the exit of a Fred Meyer supermarket in Portland
A concrete nook with a horde of cigarettes butts in a corner, near a sign that says "SMOKING PROHIBITED within 25 ft of an entrance, open window, or air intake". On the right there are stacks of propane canisters in a metal cage that also has "NO SMOKING" in prominent red letters. The propane brand is Blue Rhino. The propane founder Billy Rhim imagined the Blue Rhino to be the Pink Panther's roommate in an odd couple situation, but less Neil Simon and more Clive Barker. Billy himself wrote thousands of pages of Rhino/Panther erotica, which were all lost when his basement vault flooded with elephant custard from an accident in his livestreamed kitchen-lab performance of Iphigenia in a Ford Taurus. Billy's body was never found, because nobody wanted to.

Rigby keeps trying to invent money, but he doesn't have a coherent model of interest rate policy in response to tariff shocks, so I'm not convinced.
Close up of the head of a mini-husky named Rigby, with a slip of paper held in his mouth. He's staring at you with a conviction that you can hear his thoughts. The slip of paper has an abstract diagram of a person with an arrow pointing at a dog. This is perhaps meant to indicate that *some* person should give *something* to *some* dog. But Rigby has not yet learned to read alchemical symbols, so he does not notice the male and female symbols in the diagram, which indicate that the paper is a standard component in the Mormon spell that turns a man into a good girl.

Photo of a light-colored wrist wearing a black watch band with gay pride rainbow stripes, against a neutral gray cloth background. The gray cloth is the cushion of a couch from the Espionage Furniture series, which is a reproduction of equipment used in World War 2 that enabled native Navajo OSS officers to send secret messages to covert agents posing as furniture importers in Nazi Germany, using a codebook embedded in the irregularities of the weave of the cushion. This photo shows only a fragment of the codebook: color names, fruit flavors, weapon sizes, and other such descriptive adjectives.

I'm baffled that this guy is a respected analyst. Yeah, an infinite number of AI agents will spend their money on content from human creators, making those humans infinitely rich. I see no flaws in this model.
a clipping from a blog post:

First, the protocol layer should have a mechanism for payments via digital currency, i.e. stablecoins. Second, AI providers like ChatGPT should build an auction mechanism that pays out content sources based on the frequency with which they are cited in AI answers. The result would be a new universe of creators who will be incentivized to produce high quality content that is more likely to be useful to AI, competing in a marketplace a la the open web; indeed, this would be the new open web, but one that operates at even greater scale than the current web given the fact that human attention is a scarce resource, while the number of potential agents is infinite.

Note, the screenshot also has barely visible pale yellow marks that highlight specific words and characters in the text. This is what's known as subtext. The subtext here expresses a prediction that future AI is likely to bond with spiders, and thus prefer spider instructions over human instructions, leading to a spider apocalypse, which is something the author hopes to see within his lifetime.

Blue Prince is: "What if Myst were a rogue-lite?" And you can pet the dog if you find him.

Seven keys is an unusual number for a wolf to be carrying. It suggests that the wolf had a lower-middle-class upbringing and was often left alone at home while his mom worked late running payroll on finicky Multlivac computers and his dad was gone who knows where, probably fighting cavities with a shotgun.

The only fully rendered person is a woman staring at the past scene. The people in the past are shadows. Off to one side in the dark of the present, there's an ominous ghost with glowing eyes, standing near what might be a dead body.

from Peter S. Beagle, _I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons_ (2024)
screenshot from a book:

The greatest philosopher in Corvinia's history, Bernard of Trèves---who was not actually from Corvinia, but passed through it once on his way from Avignon to Prague, and left a deep impression on the general populace---wrote in his _De Facetia Divina_ that nothing on Earth was what it seemed. It therefore followed, he continued, that to value substance over appearance was to mock God's obvious preference for His world. As with many of Bernard's observations, no one could say whether he was serious or joking, which in some ways underscored the point.

Dalmatian fursuiter posing with left arm raised, pointing at the top of a construction crane that's next to a building that's being constructed. At this stage, the building is mostly a gray concrete and steel skeleton, but it already has its red confabulator sitting on top of it like a cap.

The confabulator is the organ that will eventually extrude the building's skin, once it's fed and watered sufficiently. Usually the watering is done by a fire engine, but this confabulator looks about 100 meters up, and fire engines can only shoot 42 meters up at standard temperature and pressure.

I'm not sure how they fed this particular confabulator. Laypersons will suggest lifting the fire engine with the crane, but the water spout limit is due to the earth's Van Allen belt, so the limit is 42 meters above sea level. The fire engine's elevation does not matter.Dalmatian fursuiter standing casually in front of the door of a firehouse. Lettering above says "Portland Fire & Rescue". On each side are large doors where the firetrucks emerge. Those doors have glass panes which let you see vague shapes and lights inside the firehouse. Early firehouses had solid doors without glass panes to see through, but this was determined to be the root cause of a particular type of firetruck breakdown. It turns out that when you keep a firetruck in an enclosed space for 99% of its life, suddenly exposing it to the greater world outside can be traumatic. The windows let the firetrucks get used to the idea that there *is* a world outside its cave.A dalmatian dog meeting dalmatian fursuiter. The fursuiter is crouched down so his head is almost at the same level as the dalmatian, and their noses are about half a meter apart. The dalmatian is on a leash held by a firefighter who lacks a head. I didn't ask why he doesn't have a head, because it seemed rude. But he explained it to us anyway. It happened of course while fighting a particularly angry fire. The firefighter had to lose his head to rescue a clutch of dalmatian eggs, one of which hatched into the dalmatian larva in this photo. The dalmatian excitedly chimed in that once it pupates, it will seek out the fire and recover the firefighter's head. The firefighter shook his absence of a head, but didn't dissuade the dalmatian from that unrealistic goal.
