Deterministische hash, city-level randomisatie.

2/2: To Redact, or not to Redact? Work led by @maiklarooij.nl: a locally hosted LLM (Qwen-3.5 9B) can classify deliberative process privilege material with reasonable accuracy. We compare many different promoting strategies, and find that CoT w/ few-shot prompting does best.

1/2: Out of the Box; this is a paper coming out of Özgür Ateş' BSc AI individual project, where he finds that off-the-shelf vision-language models (Nanonets-OCR-S) can detect redactions and segment page-streams in disclosed government documents surprisingly well w/o task-specific training.

🤏 More interestingly, we find that some models are structurally very dissimilar, and mostly much smaller/simpler, while yielding 100% identical legal outcomes!

🎉 Full paper accepted at #ICAIL2026! This paper studies LLMs and representation for generating executable decision models from legal text w/ the Dutch Environment and Planning Portal (DSO) as case study, as it pairs complex hand-crafted decision models with legal articles. There's 2 main findings! 🧵

Brand ergens in Nederland?

We extend an ensemble-based open coding pipeline with two axial coding strategies: 1️⃣ "Traditional" clustering + LLM labeling 2️⃣ Direct LLM-based grouping Which works better? Turns out they're complementary; and we find a clear tradeoff between coverage and structural separation.

My most popular social content this week is sticking up for the poor boss of Meta AI from unjustified attacks by frustrated critics whose tweets are not acknowledged as moving the field forward (nor backwards). Another week, another good deed of protecting the voiceless.

Het GPT-NL corpus bestaat uit: - public domain, CC-0 & CC-BY content uit Common Corpus ("80% older than 140 years old, and mostly non-Dutch") 1/3

Really cool to see OpenAI releasing open-weights models, but not sure about this explanation of the strategy behind it. Sounds weird, or is perhaps just awkwardly honest? Anyway, hooray to open-weights models! Nothing's stopping "them" (i.e., us) from using whichever model works best at the time.

Sorry, weer even ranten over irritante GPT-NL n.a.v. www.ewmagazine.nl/economie/new...
