I agree. The main theme is so catchy. Rarely played live, presumably as it’s only 15 mins long. This Richter version is apparently sensational.

Couldn’t resist this second hand LP. This early recording of Prokofiev 7 features the original quiet ending, which is a plus. #prokofiev #sviatoslavrichter #karelancerl #supraphon

1950s mono LP of Prokofiev’s 7th symphony and Piano Concerto No.1

Loved this film - doesn’t it have a great heist sequence and a dogged detective living alone with his cats? And a weird Yves Montand hallucination scene?

I've just sampled the slow movement - wowzers! It's gorgeous.

I’m fixated on KTOO radio Juneau’s hourly jingle, an insanely catchy guitar and chime bar theme.

I studied a 20th century poetry anthology for A Level English in the mid 1980s which included several impenetrable Empson poems. I can’t remember anything about them, but I do remember that scary beard and the staring eyes.

Yes - the ‘ginger beer plant’ was an explosive cocktail of sugar, yeast and ginger extracted. We used plastic squash bottles and they exploded in the shed. Messy and sticky

Can’t believe that Petula is still alive and well. She appears in Powell and Pressburger’s lovely film ‘I Know Where I’m Going’. Tony Hatch was a brilliant producer.

These were 25p a packet, so probably not a roaring hit at the biscuit box office

I picked up these two recently, both heavily discounted (probably because no one was buying them). Tiramisu flavour Bourbons and Rhubarb flavour Custard Creams. Both underwhelming.

Neill is so good in this film. The disc includes a tenth anniversary Q&A with cast and crew; watching him get teary-eyed when recalling making the film is so, so sweet and made me blub. Probably one of Neill’s last public appearances.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople, in a 10th anniversary reissue. Lovely, funny film with a melancholy edge. Plus two charismatic dog actors. Read more: www.theartsdesk.com/film/blu-ray... #huntforthewilderpeople #samneill #newzealand

A simple search for a stopping mute on eBay throws up some alarming things. If you're flogging a horn, why not check to see if what you're selling is set up correctly? These two listings are the stuff of nightmares.... #frenchhorn #valveslides #brassinstrument

A colleague interviewed Christie in the 90s and told me that she was lovely. Her Liz was too good for Billy in the film, and he was right to return home and face the music.

I used to think that John Schlesinger's 'Billy Liar' was a comedy, but his adaptation of Keith Waterhouse's novel gets darker and sadder each time I see it. A brilliant film: www.theartsdesk.com/film/blu-ray... @studiocanal.com #billyliar #tomcourtenay #juliechristie #leonardrossiter

'It’s a film about a bloke cheating on girlfriends' - or is it? ★★★★★ BILLY LIAR - #JohnSchlesinger's vibrant tragicomedy, despite its melancholy edge, remains one of the funniest and most quotable of British films, says @grahamrickson.bsky.social www.theartsdesk.com/film/blu-ray... now on Blu-ray
