Diesel prices go through the roof! But still seemingly not high enough to make people walk half a mile to collect their kids from school or switch their engine off instead of idling.

Good stuff on the bbc website about just how hot and dry the Summer was. Romsey, Hampshire had 38 days over the 27C heatwave threshold and was 4.1C above the long term average!

My best August for solar generation: which came after my best ever July by about 15%. There's an awful drought and a good chunk of the New Forest went up in smoke but at least I made lots of free fusion powered energy 🌞⚡🔋🫣

Used Oxford's park and ride today. £3 to park all day, bus travel for up to 5 people and was in town within 10 mins. Brilliant!

Have owned an EV for nearly 2 years now and driven it all over the place. We're in South Devon for a few days camping and it's the first time I've really found it difficult to charge the car. One x 50kW charger in Dartmouth and a handful of slow 22kWs. Need some more fast public chargers please 🔋⚡

Three days of July to go and it looks like this will comfortably be my best month for solar energy since I had my PV system installed in Sept 22. Previous record was 832 kWh of energy generated. Can we get to 900 kWh? 🙌⚡🔋🌞

Holiday in the climate emergency. No that’s not AI or edited, just a snapshot I just took with my phone on Lacanau beach in France. What future will this boy grow up in? It is in our hands, but time is running out.

Feeling strangely optimistic about our new PM. Hope he can deliver at least some of the changes he is promising. Good to hear about ending rough sleeping. I travel around the UK a lot and I think it's creates a strong perception that the country is struggling and in decline

June heatwave killed up to 440 people a day in England and Wales, data suggests
Extreme temperatures in May and June led to about 2,700 lost lives in total with climate crisis adding 3C to 4C The heatwave that affected England and Wales in June killed about 440 people a day during its three-day peak, scientists have estimated. Across the whole of the June heatwave, plus the one in May, about 2,700 people lost their lives prematurely. The data starkly illustrates the danger of extreme heat, which is being supercharged by the climate crisis. More than 40% of the people affected would not have died without the 1.4C of human-caused global heating to date, according to the analysis. For comparison, about four people die each day as a result of road traffic collisions and about 35 a day because of alcohol and drug use, according to government statistics. Continue reading...

Got knocked off my bike this week in Portsmouth at a mini roundabout. Ended up on the bonnet as the driver pulled out without looking. I'm fine, just bruised, and pissed off. Front wheel is basically destroyed and I need to get my frame checked for damage

Bicycles are hugely space efficient, which is why they make a lot of sense in congested cities. This video demonstrates why there aren’t traffic jams in bike lanes. Just imagine the traffic queues if every bicycle here was a car.

Turns out net zero is cheaper than a single fossil fuel crisis. 🤷 The sooner we build on clean, home-grown energy, the sooner we stop handing the keys to foreign gas markets. But we also need market reform now - so customers, not just corporations, actually reap the benefits of renewables.

Received this in the post today. Been hugely controversial locally (as all changes to car parking seem to be) but I really support what @forestryengland.bsky.social are doing. It costs money to manage and protect the New Forest. People who drive and park should pay towards the cost of doing so.
