The "ZAN" anime by Yoshitaka Amano is finally underway. First announced in 2010 as a feature film, it's now a series. Produced by Yoshitaka Amano Inc, and based on the artist's "Deva Zan" illustrations. The pilot film will debut at Anime Expo.

Japanese Artist Akihiro Higuchi uses beetles as unique canvases for his far east infused artworks.

A vertical studio photograph showcases an extraordinary miniature artwork by contemporary Japanese artist Akihiro Higuchi, who paints directly onto preserved insects. A large stag beetle serves as a literal canvas, adorned with intricate, lacquer-style motifs reminiscent of traditional Japanese textiles and family crests (kamon). The beetle is mounted symmetrically against a completely flat, neutral pale grey background and is oriented vertically with its head facing up, highlighting its prominent, curved black mandibles.
