I should probably reframe my take: sure, they’re adorable, but also very inspiring in how hard they work for their dreams. It’s pretty incredible.

I also somehow thought that Lebedev was the one from whom I learned abut the writings of the great humanist designer Viktor Papanek, but it was in fact from @monteiro.bsky.social, who did not end up being a disappointment. Sorry for misremembering, Mike. Let's Make Mistakes was truly great.

And DHH, whose writings and work rescued me from the LAMP salt mines of the mid-00s, and who ended up writing shit like what he's just posted on his blog just now.

Artemy Lebedev, who through his work, blog, and books nurtured my UI and design taste, who yearly reminded his audience to read Nikulin's "Memories of the War" instead of following the official v-day parade, and who ended up supporting the invasion of Ukraine in the most callous, anti-humanist way;

“You're absolutely right! It's important to push back on this. Most people don't see things this clearly, but you do — and that's rare. And honestly? That matters.”

Awed/annoyed that I'm developing a kind of fluency in the LLM-bullshit dialect of the English language: "Oh it wrote 'a load-bearing concept', that means this bit is being used by other parts of the system"

gosha @gosha.net · 10/06/2026

I probably spent a lot more time than I should have on this control. I'm not a fan of the checkmark + colour label pattern, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do this better. #UI

The #BTS Hot Ones interview is genuinely enjoyable and quite funny. It looks like the interviewer went digging for some deep lore when prepping, I love how surprised/excited Jin was when he got asked about fishing! #GoshaDoesKpop

A while back my bluesky feed, no matter how hard I try, was a list of things that americans were outraged about on a given day. Seems like that aspect at least has improved whilst I was away!

Is Bluesky so over, or so back?

I started working on a small graph UI toolkit in #ClojureScript, to act as a replacement for react-flow in Parts. For now it only has UIx components, but shouldn’t be too hard to support Reagent, too. github.com/apossiblespa... apossiblespace.github.io/minigraph/

Billion dollar business idea: wet wipes that don’t fuse into one giant cellulose brick of despair inside the packaging while you’re dealing with a poopnado

010

gosha @gosha.net · 06/10/2025

I think the idea that has informed my thinking about LLMs as tools the most so far is that LLMs answer the question “what does an answer to this question look like?” Instead of the actual question. This has been on my mind whenever I have to engage with anything LLM-related.

Oh I had the exact same issue with Revolut, haha. Solved it fairly easily though!

Any UK small business owners who are using Wise as their only business bank account? Thinking of switching to that (from Revolut) because of lower costs, would love some feedback!

Dan I am not in principle opposed to the idea of a torment nexus; my main concern is: who decides who gets fed to the nexus?

000

gosha @gosha.net · 29/09/2025

Oh no, I have come full circle and it is now I who is disgracing the neighbourhood

100

gosha @gosha.net · 29/09/2025

hmm I don’t know about this one, Dan! Seems a bit too torment nexus-y to me

110

gosha @gosha.net · 29/09/2025

Wow someone on bluesky has built a digital version of the “they are disgracing our neighbourhood” billboard from my Soviet childhood

110

gosha @gosha.net · 29/09/2025

I was wondering how you were handling this whole situation, it really cannot be easy 😔

020

gosha @gosha.net · 29/09/2025

Okay I guess I’ll still keep an eye on this space. @danabra.mov’s open socials piece got me interested, found out about @tangled.org through it. Exciting stuff.

Back in the 90/00s, you’d go for a Mac as a way to rebel against the beige box PC hegemony, you’d go for Lotus 1-2-3 to protest against MS Office, and you’d get a Matrox g400 to show you had more taste than the average Quake-loving 3DFx-er. What are some parallels today?

gosha @gosha.net · 24/08/2025

Thanks guys, I'll look into these!

Chat, how can I access my mp3 collection on my work laptop without actually copying it over (it has bitdefender on it and I don't want to trigger any alerts). At home I guess I can just mount a network drive and point cmus/doppler at it, but what if I'm outside or travelling?

Now that I'm no longer looking for work, I should turn my Hire Me website (hire.gosha.net) into a page on my homepage I think. It's a nice collection of past projects and kind things people have said about me.

Odd This Day @oddthisday.bsky.social · 10/08/2025

Today is the 47th anniversary of this clearly unimprovable photo, from a story so absurd that it shouldn’t be true, but is: the day a team of workers from British Waterways pulled the plug out of the Chesterfield Canal, and all the water emptied out

A man with a spectacular 1970s mullet, wearing big wellies and a v-neck jumper over a T-shirt, looks at camera as he stands on a boat which is itself standing on the muddy bottom of an empty canal. He is holding up an enormous wooden plug on a long chunky chain
