One student I just saw looked like she wanted to interact with a phone-gazer, but held herself back and didn't initiate contact. Sad. It's even more puzzling to be "alone" in a group, as per your daughter's experience. It's like they realize they want a group, but have forgotten how groups interact

Note also that during the Global War on Terror, Bush Administration used historical precedent of (torture) of Indigenous people as precedent/justification. The US war machine indeed seems linked to its anti-Indigenous origins, to this day.

During the Vietnam War, US soldiers used term "Indian Country" to mean areas where there are no "civilians", where you can fire at anything. Kill anyone. The power of dehumanization, and one clearly linking modern military warfare to its anti-Indigenous roots. #TruthAndReconciliationDay

After American Revolution, the Founding Fathers essentially disbanded the military, fearing what it might be used for But realized that if it was to be an empire, US would need an army like the British Empire had. They created an army so colonizers could move westward. Control/eliminate Natives

New paper 🍼📄 ManyBabies 3 is out (open access, registered report in Developmental Science). 30 labs, 33 languages, 839 infants set out to replicate a textbook finding: 7-month-olds learn abstract rules from speech (@garymarcus.bsky.social et al., 1999). We didn’t find it. 🧵
