I voted today! Proud to support BC NDP candidates Will Cole-Hamilton, Josie Osborne, Stephanie Higginson and George Anderson. There's too much at stake to go backwards. Volunteer if you can, and please vote! Democracy is strongest when we all take part. #EveryVoteCounts

Congratulations to Parksville's Royal Canadian Legion Branch 49 on 100 years of service! It was an honour to celebrate with members, veterans and volunteers whose dedication has supported veterans, honoured their sacrifices and strengthened our community for generations. Thank you!

The Trump-aligned CEO of an American corporation is dismantling one of Canada’s most important industries and 500 Canadian workers could lose their jobs. If we’re serious about making Canada strong, it’s time to take back control of our economy and nationalize Stelco.

No one should have to choose between heating their home, groceries or prescriptions. I met with advocates on Energy Poverty Day on the Hill to discuss a national strategy to lower energy bills and improve home efficiency. Affordability and climate action must go hand in hand.

So, Conservatives think public ownership is good when it’s gifting the highly profitable oil industry another pipeline, but not when it means saving Canadian jobs and our domestic steel industry? Interesting. Anyway. Nationalize Stelco.

When will ending homelessness make Canada's major projects list? 65,000 Canadians are homeless on any given night, yet just 3.3% of our housing is non-market housing. Building Canada strong must mean building homes for everyone. We need action, not excuses.

I agree we need electrified regional rail integrated with ferries and public transit. A bridge to Vancouver Isl. isn’t realistic given the deep waters, seismic risks, challenging seabed and enormous costs. Ferries remain essential. We need fair federal funding, cleaner vessels and reliable service.

We're making progress in our fight for fair BC ferry funding! I pressed the Liberals again in Parliament, and their response was somewhat more encouraging. But words aren't enough. Ottawa funds 43% of East Coast ferry operating costs vs just 3% for BC. We need fairness. Let's keep the pressure on!

Today is World Mental Health Day. Mental health is health, yet just 6.3% of Canada's health spending goes toward it. I'm calling for renewed federal funding and support for my Mental Health Parity Act, Bill C-280. Nobody should be denied care because they can't afford it.

Homelessness in Canada exploded after successive Conservative and Liberal governments gutted public housing spending. The market won't solve the problems it created. It's time for the government to get back in the business of building housing that people can actually afford.

Canada is wealthy, yet 65K people are homeless. Only 3.3% of our housing is non-market, far behind European countries. I challenged the Liberals: shouldn't nation-building mean ensuring everyone has a home? Housing is infrastructure. Ending homelessness must be a nat'l priority. #NationBuilding

Mental illness costs Canada nearly 6% of GDP each year. The Liberals call a project adding about 0.6% to GDP “nation-building.” So why not show the same urgency on mental health? Mental health parity and universal access to community care are nation-building too.

Yesterday I tabled e-Petition 7474, signed by 7,700+ Vancouver Islanders and coastal residents. BC Ferries isn’t a luxury, it’s an essential marine highway. Both coasts deserve strong federal support. It’s time for Ottawa to modernize its outdated funding arrangements and fund BC fairly.

BC Ferries is essential transportation, not a luxury. With PT7 underway, Ottawa must negotiate meaningful operating support and direct capital funding for BC Ferries. “British Columbians should not have to borrow what Canadians on the other coast receive through direct federal investment.”

You can disagree with the policy, but blaming nurses or their union for fighting for more support isn’t the answer. I’ll keep listening to frontline nurses, defending their right to organize and using every federal tool available to help recruit, retain and support them.

Better working conditions and a refundable federal tax credit aren’t competing ideas. We need safe staffing, strong collective bargaining, better recruitment and retention, AND federal measures that put more money back in nurses’ pockets.

Let’s be clear: I’m not going to attack a nurses’ union for advocating for nurses. They’re doing exactly what they should be doing. Nurses are exhausted, understaffed and carrying enormous responsibility keeping our public health care system running.

@SMohyeddin • 10h = NATIONAL POST None of this applies, however, when a Jewish person presents a clear and present danger to the Jewish community. When that happens, Jewish thought is much more forceful: you must prevent the perpetrator from causing harm. Jewish law developed two character sketches to describe such scenarios. The first is known as a "mosar" — a Jewish person who informs to oppressive authorities, potentially leading to the imprisonment, torture or death of community members. The second, called a "rodef," refers to a Jew who is actively pursuing another with the intent to harm or kill them. In both scenarios, the law is clear that a jew is duty-bound to step in. Protecting the community and its members is the most important thing. 244
