Let books be. Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, an annual observation started more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. Sound familiar? Find ways to get involved and spread the word: bit.ly/4yvixbB.

LET BOOKS BE. Various line drawings related to libraries and books, including a hand holding a sign made of an open book that reads "Freed for ALL to Read," a tote bag that reads "Totes Resist" carrying a book, a full book cart with the head and tale of a horse with text that reads "A Wild Ride," and a closeup of two feet standing on a stack of books that say "A Soap Box" on their spines. Text at bottom reads "Protect the freedom to read. Banned Books Week, October 4-10, 2026." American Library Association. ala.org/bbooks

One of those nights where I’m so dead and rotting on the couch after a busy week that I can’t make up my mind for delivery or carry out for dominos. I haaaaate paying delivery fees. The worst!

Library hauls to scare conservatives. Repost your hauls, y’all!

A book haul from the Salt Lake County Library that includes two volumes of the manga adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Ethical Slut, The Last Sun and A Pattern Language

Gremlin’d my ass off at the rave tonight. Another one tomorrow… and next weekend! What is this life?! Also shout out to the DJ’s unintentional Silent Hill 2 25th anniversary with their red squares imagery. Teehee. 🟥

Ok, so maybe this is mean, but while You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen is lovely, but it’s just basically a Christian rock song.

Today’s fit for Lane 8 tonight at Ogden Twilight. New haircut too, so uh, gay powers activated, etc. Really hope this thunderstorm weather ends before, though. Will have a minor crash out if they have to cancel the concert due to weather. 🫥

After a big delay (not mad about it), finally got this in the mail today. Can’t wait to increase my Insight on Bloodborne. 🕷️🩸

The hardcover book of Grant Us Eyes: The Art of Paradox in Bloodborne by Nathan Weinstein from Tune and Fairweather with an illustration featuring the monsters and gods of the game in the cathedral ward encompassing the title in the middle.

This ol’ gay is filled with Determination after the Undertale Symphony Tour.

A gay, wearing the undertale determination tour shirt - black, long sleeves, with rainbow hearts screen printed onto the sleeves with the main character’s red heart on the chest.

Hit a milestone in aerials today that has stumped me for a long time. The coach tonight had some cues I had never heard before and they clicked! Star balance, I’m coming for you now!

The 4K remaster of Akira the theater was a trip. The animation holds up so well still Maybe it’s time I finish the manga series. It’s just so heavy (and very icky).

Laid off from Netflix games today, this industry is brutal. I knew I was on borrowed time with how things were going but I was hoping to remain employed through at least the beginning of 2027. Here’s to what’s next, whatever it may be.

you only have a short while, make your fall worth it (we all fall) @jayhulmepoet.bsky.social

For a Short While
Jay Hulme
People like to write about Icarus, but we forget that he flew, for a short while, anyway;
and people like to write about Judas, but we forget that he walked with God, for a short while, anyway;
and people like to write about death, but forget that we live, for a short while, anyway;
and perhaps such things are worth it, are worth throwing it all away;
oh, what I'd give, to touch such dreams, for a short while, anyway.

Ok so I’m excited for the new Star Fox game, but I wish they went for the illustrative style we saw in the (terrible) Mario galaxy movie. That sequence was the best part of the film. 😭

Sometimes rather than turn the lights on in my house when I’m running downstairs at bedtime to check on something, I like to use my flashlight on the phone like I’m in a survival horror game. Gives the mundane task at hand more of a thrill.

Silent Hill Townfall and the new Kena game on the PlayStation State of Play today were the highlights. I’m so excited for this new vision of Silent Hill!

I’m on a nun/reproductive feminist horror kick thanks to the wonderful book “Scream With Me.” I just watched Immaculate, and man, that movie was not good though it does have its moments. My palate cleanser is The First Omen, which minus the wigs, is far superior. Great film in theaters and at home.

Drinking game idea for when you go see the new Avatar movie: take a shot every time they say bro. You may not survive the first twenty minutes.

This is such a weird holiday season. I haven’t watched any holiday films or shows; just horror movies and shows, alongside horror games and listening to an audiobook on feminism and horror films from the 60s-80s. But my tree is super cute!

Three endings in on Silent Hill f, and despite a billion games in my backlog, I still want to go for a fourth playthrough for the “true” ending. I may fast track the UFO ending first, I want that light saber! This game is such a perfect modern addition to the Silent Hill canon. So happy with it.

Working in games, I understand the amount of time, effort and money it costs towards casting, dubbing, localization, etc of VO lines, but for the love of god can’t the Pokemon company at least give us some VO in their games or the Pokemon version of Simlish? 😩 Legends Z-A feels so empty without VO.
