Really excited to finally show off our work on the specification of neuroblasts. While it has been a long-standing model for lateral inhibition, we show that Notch does not select the NB, but instead reinforces fate decisions. www.cell.com/current-biol... @currentbiology.bsky.social

Positional cues, not Notch, direct neuroblast selection during early neurogenesis in the Drosophila embryo
Using quantitative live imaging, Green et al. show that proneural gene expression is biased by positional cues and that Notch is activated only after neuroblast selection in the Drosophila embryo. Thi...

Very cool new paper from the Tepass lab. they use optigenetics to enhance clustering of E-cadherin in vivo during embryo morphogenesis. This slows cell intercalation and axis extension, slows neural stem cell invagination but does not slow mesoderm invagination by apical constriction. WOW! 🧪

So excited our paper is out now!! It was a very fun project where we combined vertex models and in vivo experiments, and we showed cell divisions play a dual role for the Drosophila ME boundary by increasing tissue fluidity!
