Here's the thing: WA currently has the 2nd most upside down tax structure in the nation (we had long been number one before the capital gains tax knocked us down a peg below FL). This is because, with no income tax, we're force to over-rely on highly regressive sales & excise taxes.
Screen shot of ITEP chart showing the lowest 20 percent of WA households pay 13.9% of their income in state and local taxes while top 1 percent pay only 4.1%.

These are what I call "Will Baker Republicans." In 2004, Republican candidate for Washington State Auditor, Will Baker, received 32% of the vote despite being exposed as a repeatedly arrested "roadside flower salesman with a history of annoying elected officials." His Wikipedia entry is… colorful.

This is a map of ballot drop boxes in WA state. If you live in a sparsely populated rural area in central or eastern WA, and you can't trust USPS to deliver your ballot, you might have to drive a couple hours to find a drop box. I've got 3 drop boxes walking distance from my home in blue Seattle.
Map of ballot drop boxes in WA state showing a clump of boxes in densely populated blue districts compared to relative handful of drop boxes scattered across vast distances throughout the rural red portions of the state.

"The rate of late ballots decreased in a handful of more urban counties, including King, Pierce, Spokane, and Clark." That's because we added ballot drop boxes in anticipation of USPS messing with ballots. And the closer the drop box the higher the turnout. esra.wisc.edu/wp-content/u...
Abstract

While evidence indicates that voting by mail (VBM) requirements increase voter turnout, there is not much evidence of the impact ballot drop boxes have on voting, despite that fact that voters in VBM states often prefer these boxes over voting via the postal service. This paper examines the impact of the installation of new ballot drop boxes on voter turnout in Pierce County, the second largest county in Washington State. To identify the causal effects of these boxes on the decision to vote, we exploit the randomized placement of five new ballot drop boxes in Pierce prior to the
2017 general election. We find that these additional drop boxes modestly increased voter turnout. Specifically, the likelihood of those voters located near one of these new drop boxes to vote, increased; and the more the new drop box reduced a voter's distance to his or her nearest drop boxes, the larger was the increase in probability that that voter would vote in the 2017 general election. For the group of voters affected by the new drop boxes, the mean change in reduced distance to their nearest drop box was 1.32 miles. We estimate for this voter, their probability of
voting increased by 0.7 percentage points.

Just diagnosed w/ severe anemia, almost certainly from a GI bleed (it's a long story), and the GI PA and RN are trying to dump me off on the ER, claiming I could get an iron infusion far faster there. Good thing we don't have socialized medicine like Canada where I'd have to wait for treatment.
MyChart message from RN:

"I will pass this along to Sarah, but going to the ER is the safest option. The iron infusions nee prior authorization first, which can take a week, and our infusion department is scheduling ways out. It would be the safest to go the ER and you would be able to get the iron infusion the
quickest there."
