Electrician arrived before 9am, when I had only just started on my first cup of tea, but he has now gone and I have a functioning ventilator system again. Also, he covered the wire with some trunking, to deter any future rat nibbling, so all good here, though I do feel like going back to bed...

Blimey - after today's 5-year electrical check when I showed the sparky man the rat chewed cable on the ventilation system, I had a call from HA asking if it's ok for somebody to come and fix it tomorrow. Wasn't expecting such a rapid response!

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

Loads of sirens going past and the Air Ambulance has just flown over. Rainfall after a dry spell always makes for slippery roads, as there is a build up of rubber, oil etc which makes a nice slick when wet. Be careful on the roads, people.⚠️

Is anybody else watching 'Carpe Diem' on Ch4? It's daft, but the French do daft detective stuff so well, and I'm loving it. The chap playing the lead is excellent, as is his lady assistant. Can recommend, if you like that sort of thing.
