This #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek, I’m celebrating the creativity and different ways of thinking people with dyslexia bring to our communities. Everyone deserves the chance to thrive. That means recognising dyslexia and ensuring schools and workplaces provide the right support.

I joined the Levels and Moors LCN to update communities on my work. Flooding was high on the agenda. I was proud to help secure £50m for Somerset’s flood resilience earlier this year. Now that funding must deliver real improvements for our communities. I’ll keep pushing to make sure it does.

Last week's Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference in Brighton was inspiring and full of energy. I'm really pleased my food security motion was adopted and becomes Lib Dem policy. And I look forward to bringing my Good Food Bill to Parliament in this upcoming session.

Enjoyed a quick pit stop at Days Gone By ahead of my advice surgeries in Martock yesterday. This delightful tea room & emporium showcases fantastic handmade products and gifts made by local crafters, based at The Pavillion on the Recreation Ground. Do pop in - you’ll be assured of a warm welcome!

🚜 Great to visit James Pullen at Perrins Hill Farm and see the potato crop and cider apples. 🥔🍎 This summer’s dry weather has hit yields hard. Farmers need greater support for on-farm water storage, fair prices and long-term resilience as our climate changes.

🚜 Good to catch up with Martin Lines and Anthony Curwen from the Nature Friendly Farming Network to discuss my Good Food Bill, British produce and protecting food production from climate shocks. Farmers need long-term certainty to run profitable businesses while caring for our countryside. 🌱

A brilliant visit to Milborne Port Primary School, where pupils put me through my paces on flooding! 🌊 We discussed reducing flood risk and building climate resilience. I also came away with two big envelopes of their letters and ideas. Fantastic to see young people so engaged! 🌱

🍺 Huge congratulations to The Drayton Crown on making the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2027! I loved visiting during my summer pub tour. Rural pubs are vital community hubs, local employers and part of village life. I’ll keep fighting to get them the support they need to thrive. 🍻

🚜 I’ve written to the Defra Secretary of State following the abrupt closure of SFI ’26 Window 2. Farmers deserve fair, stable support, not another botched closure and more uncertainty. If you’ve been affected, please get in touch and share your experience.

🚜 At an NFU event this week, we discussed barriers to vital vaccines, missed vaccination opportunities and the need for better disease detection and faster deployment. I’ll keep pressing the Government to strengthen animal disease prevention and protect British farmers.

💙 Great to meet Dementia UK and hear about their vital work supporting people affected by dementia. Too many families struggle to access the health and social care they need. People living with dementia deserve dignity, timely care and proper support. I’ll keep pushing for change.

Great to meet the National Education Union & discuss pressures facing our schools, particularly in rural areas. Teachers need the resources, decent buildings & fair pay to do their jobs, while families need earlier SEND support. Education is a public service, not a business.

Farm reservoirs are being held back by slow licences, planning and narrow grant windows. At the EFRA Committee, I asked whether the £15m Water Management Grant will have rolling applications. Water security is national security, and farmers need flexibility to tackle drought and flooding.

Changes to school food standards are welcome. But farmers are locked out of supplying local schools, as Govt still doesn't require local/British sourcing. I asked the Minister to fix this by supporting my Good Food Bill, prioritising fresh, local, sustainably sourced food in public procurement.

🍎 As Chair of the Cider APPG, I’ve written to the Chancellor ahead of the Autumn Budget calling for a 5% cut in cider duty, protection of the cider duty differential and VAT for hospitality cut to 10%. I’ll keep fighting for our cider makers, pubs, jobs and rural communities.

Cocklemoor is at the heart of Langport, but the River Parrett continues to be blighted by sewage pollution - 200 times in 2025 alone. I’m campaigning for Cocklemoor to become an official bathing water site & demanding cleaning up our rivers be prioritised over big bonuses for water bosses.

Somerset businesses are already investing in a peat-free future, the Govt must catch up. I’ve written to the new Defra Minister calling for a timetable to end horticultural peat sales & give growers the certainty they need. Peatlands are vital carbon stores. I'll keep pushing the Govt for clarity.

At the APPG on Gardening and Horticulture, we discussed boosting farm profitability, investing in on-farm water storage and tackling wonky veg waste. British produce shouldn’t be rejected simply for looking different. I’ll keep pushing my Good Food Bill and backing British growers.

I've submitted a petition in Parliament calling on the Govt to tackle the waste of wonky fruit & veg, ensure farmers get a fair price & strengthen our food security. After extreme heat this summer this is more urgent than ever. Let's back British farmers to do the critical job of producing our food.

I’ve joined cross-party MPs to call on the Govt to strengthen protections for remaining ancient woodlands & veteran trees. These irreplaceable habitats cover just 2.8% of England & are home to some of our richest wildlife. They must be protected for generations to come.

I was pleased to support Georgie Newbury of Common Farm Flowers & Flowers from the Farm to get a dedicated flower farming SIC code earlier this year. But full implementation isn’t until 2031. I've asked to meet Ministers to discuss speeding up the rollout for our vital horticulture sector.

It's #BackBritishFarmingDay. From fighting the Family Farm Tax & bringing forward a Good Food Bill, to tackling wonky veg waste, securing flood funding & holding Govt to account, I'll always stand up for farmers, who feed the nation & protect our environment & national security under huge pressure.

The Chancellor's promised 'growth in every postcode' must mean rural communities too. Rural England’s productivity is just 69% of the non-rural rate - holding back our countryside & our national economy. I challenged the Government: what are they doing to unlock the full potential of rural Britain?
041
Sarah Dyke MP 🔶 @sarahdykeld.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Rural health cannot be an afterthought. Which is why I’ve tabled amendments to the Government’s Health Bill calling for a farmer-friendly GP scheme, recognising practices that proactively reach isolated farming communities. The upcoming Rural Health Report must lead to real action - not just words.
030
Sarah Dyke MP 🔶 @sarahdykeld.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
In rural areas like Glastonbury and Somerton, the rise in short-term lets is pushing local families and workers out of the rented sector and hollowing out communities. I asked the Minister what action the Government will take to ensure new regulation protects our rural housing stock.

💧 85% of the world’s chalk streams are in England & once they’re lost, we can’t recreate them. I’ve joined MPs & Peers calling on the Government to recognise chalk streams as irreplaceable habitats & give them the strongest protection in our planning system. These rare waterways are ours to protect.

Rural Crime Action Week is a reminder of the devastating impact of machinery & livestock theft, hare coursing, fly-tipping & livestock worrying on farmers & rural communities. Farmers deserve to feel safe & protected. I'll keep pushing for rural communities to get the policing resources they need.
