That's one thing i really love about Fabula Ultima. You CAN die, but it's supposed to be narratively consequential.

Many people already start their day in the dark anyway. Obviously not going to happen but it would be nice if we could focus the conversion on how we structure our work and school days instead.

We played a brutal game of Root last night. I stomped the Eyrie to dust but then those fucking skunk bandits stole my victory. The badgers were also there.

Happy Michaelmas! In some parts of Ireland on this day, rent could be paid in geese. If you’re due to pay rent this month, please consider setting a very irritated goose on your landlord in lieu of payment, in the name of upholding important Irish traditions.
A drawing of mine of a goose looking concerned, with a tag around its neck that reads "This month's rent, with thanks".

I've really been needing to hear some good news for once, so this was a nice surprise.

But she says she's in favour of liveable neighbourhoods! (Just don't ask her what she thinks a liveable neighbourhood is)
Marg's pamphlet where she apparently supports liveable neighbourhoods by opposing development

isn't the whole point of a strike to disrupt labour??? because that's the only power we have??? and it shows how crucial workers are to the job??? i think you're right about them targeting the air Canada strike though

Currently reading through @aptshadow.bsky.social's Tyrant Philosophers series and I think Yasnic is really a kind of Rincewind. He seems to always end up in situations that he didn't ask for and he has a weird box.

This is how I learned about Kneecap. Never would have heard of them if certain people hadn't made such a big stink about their vocal support of Palestine

If there are other ways to tell them to fuck off about this endeavor, I'm open to suggestions. I also don't find petitions especially effective but I'll still sign them. I know letters aren't the best tool on their own but I'd still like them to know when things piss me off.

Yeah but that was a temporary aesthetic choice. This is critical to the functionality of the place, like removing the chefs from a restaurant.

In the meantime, i guess I'll just keep politely but firmly sending people to ITS. Who could also be a bit nicer.

The library always gets a lot of lip service about how great it is as an institution, but those words are never backed up with the cold, hard cash that we really fucking need.

Gina @gointy.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
And part of it is also that libraries are a female-dominated field, so we're constantly expected to take on more with fewer resources.

I get that whoever sent her over thought they were giving us a compliment, but I'm tired of being perceived as 'nice' when all it gets us is work that other departments are supposed to do.

Gina @gointy.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
A staff member from another department was sent to us to get help setting up the Wi-Fi on her phone, because 'the library staff are nicer than ITS' It was also the first day of class, so we were VERY busy helping new students.

They're trying to capture a moment, the same way the high school football star wants to relive his glory days and forget the blunt trauma to the head he suffered. And they need to start looking for magic in their future, and not grasp at curls of poisoned smoke from their past.

They're not interested in reading Diane Duane or Diana Wynne Jones or probably fifteen hundred other Dianes or Dianas who wrote better coming of age stories about child magicians, because there aren't millions of other people reading them at the same exact moment.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

Grecian Influence on Regency Fashion - Sharon Lathan, Novelist
In the aftermath of the French Revolution, European fashion followed the example established by breaking away from the thick brocade, heavy lace, immense powdered wigs, and stiff structures which were a hallmark of aristocratic garments. Flipping 180 degrees, fashionable dress embraced a “natural” style with ease and comfort the defining factor. The...
