Britney's move into an OS (overtly sexual) pop star is one of the best transitions in pop history

For me good art has to put its head into the jaws of Insisting Upon Itself and sometimes it gets devoured but the greater sin lies in the opposite direction, which is never giving us the chance to care at all

I've got her as an armoured ostrich thing and she's... okay. She's either at the top of the B squad or the bottom of the A squad. Maybe I should put her on a pegasus

Was reminded of how I made Marcie the kangaroo in Animal Crossing's catchphrase "as a mother" and how it never stopped being funny to me
Mikaela in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave saying "I'm a mother. I understand."

I think despite all the bad stuff in the 2000s there was still a sense of us vs them maybe? So there was a general sense of community or whatever idk, but I think around 2014 it became more us vs us while they watch, and it's only gotten worse since, especially post-pandemic

I think the "millennial optimism" thing is weird. Things certainly do feel different now but it's not like things felt great in the 2000s, with the War on Terror and the financial crash and everything. But I also feel like it's not *just* nostalgia either, modern bad feeling has a different flavour

When I was a teenager I worked at Index doing the evening delivery shift. There was a TV/DVD player combi right where I worked so I'd always put on Apocalypse Now because it was long made the shift fly by. I never got bored of it

i rewatched The Matrix trilogy recently and could not help but laugh when i saw each movie had a different production logo. they were all released within four years, with the second and third movie released in the same year!
Production logo from The Matrix (1999), reads "Warner Bros. Pictures: a Time Warner Entertainment Company."Production logo from The Matrix: Reloaded (2003), reads "Warner Bros. Pictures: an AOL Time Warner Company."Production logo from The Matrix: Revolutions (2003), reads "Warner Bros. Pictures: A Time Warner Company."

I think the same thing about sequencing instruments, really. I sequence drums and whatnot and I've got no shame in that, but I would still more or less always prefer it if they were real. It's just about what's realistic vs what's ideal, and I think it's fair to say the same with vinyl

Thomas @godribbon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Maybe easy to say because I'm not a DJ, but I think people just need to be okay with people saying things like this. Like it isn't actually true that real DJs only use vinyl, but I feel like spiritually it is true

Lots of people are comparing this to the LGBTQ+ censorship scandal from last summer and rightly asking whether there's a double standard at play. In the UK, I don't think there is. But I must dip into the most forbidden of video game policy lore – age ratings – to explain why 🧵

Yeah exactly! I've not seen her first film but Camp Miasma and the film before it, I Saw The TV Glow, are both well worth checking out

Camp Miasma is a great film but it's also a film that makes me appreciate David Lynch's ability to shut the fuck up about his work. I've heard and seen so many quotes from Jane Schoenbrun that just chip away at the mystique and reduce the impression the film made on me

I think the sadness of the decline of physical media is how hard it is for things to stay in your memory. A CD or DVD you remember because it's where you left it, it's on your shelf and in your peripheral vision. Without that, it's either in a folder or controlled by a recommendation algorithm

Just watched The Dark Knight which I've seen a bunch of times, and I've always loved it but in my mind it had been slightly hampered by my Nolan cynicism. It's too long, it's paced poorly, lots of the dialogue is corny. But fuck all that it fucking rocks ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
