I totally quit drinking in my mid-20s(now almost 51). I was out of control. Headed down a dark path towards alcoholism. Took a few years before I trusted myself to be able to drink socially. I was successful. These days, if I average a drink a year over the course of a decade, I'd be surprised. 1/3

I've never given Van Halen the credit they deserve in my life's soundtrack. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Van Hagar years. Possibly blame Iron Maiden or 80s Metallica and maybe Slayer, and then Death Metal. But oh mama, gimme those early albums 🤘 Btw, this book is an excellent read so far.

Snapped up a couple of new albums yesterday. #NewVinylDay Envy of None creates quite the soundscape. Big Al (Alex Lifeson of Rush)is having some fun. Great stuff!!! Devin Townsend is the best vocalist in metal! And one hell of a guitar slayer. He could sing the alphabet, and I'd listen on repeat.

Looks like I might be going to Vancouver for my birthday to take in another gig. Sacrifice is headlining May 17th at the Modified Ghost festival. Of course, that puts the kibosh on the Obscura/Atheist show at Starlite a week earlier. Only so many dollars to go around. Happy 51st to me 🤘

I just watched this episode last week during a particularily rainy day on our vacation. I didn't appreciate the show when it was originally on because I was young and dumb. My dad always loved it. I get it now. All 4 seasons are brilliant!

The parade was pretty cool. Not quite 3 hours long. So many entries. I think I read there were 200. The new PM was in the parade, so that was kinda cool and unexpected. Montreal keeps on giving to this trip!

I'm not too big on St. Patrick's day, since I don't drink alcohol, nor am I religious. However, I am excited to take in the Parade today. I can't recall having gone to one growing up. This one is the 200th edition. Older than the parade in Dublin. Goes from noon-3pm. Photos are sure to follow.

Swung back by L'Auberge St. Gabriel to snap a better photo of the exterior. I figured while I was there, I might as well pop in and see if Rida was in, to thank him again for such a memorable evening. As luck would have it, he was. Dressed down a bit, as was I.

We finally went for a walkabout in Old Montreal. 1st stop was Notre Dame Basilica. Whoa!!! I'm not religious. The interior was magnificent! We're going back there tonight for Aura. They light the interior up. Not 100% sure what I'm going to see. It's supposed to be quite stunning though.

Now it's time for a soak. The whole reason we cancelled our hotel and booked this Airbnb 4 the enormous tub. It took almost 20 minutes to fill! It's been a long time since i had a tub session. My body is looking forward to the warmth, and the intergalactic bath bomb from Lush won't hurt either 😃

Next, we headed to Schwartz's to try the famous smoked meat. First, I had read on google that the staff were incredibly rude. That wasn't the case. Very friendly and helpful. I didn't get a photo out front, but I did get an incredible sandwich. You probably drooled when you looked at the picture 😂

We went by the flagship location of St. Viateur this afternoon for a half dozen all dressed(everything) bagels. Walked out of the shop, took one out of the bag, and put it in my mouth. Plain. Best. Bagels. Ever!!! And the technique of the man making them. It was incredible to see.

L'Auberge St. Gabriel was better than Nikki or I expected! The building itself was magnificent. The food was out of this world! And Rida, the gentleman who took care of us this evening... I have not met, in all my years in restaurants, someone better than Rida. A superb evening!

It would have been my Pops 83rd birthday today. Happy birthday, Pop. Miss you old man ❤️ My dad and I didn't always see eye to eye, but he dug good music. He got me into Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd. Good stuff like that... and he would've loved this album. I would have loved to play it for him 🤘
