Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 02/10/2026American Truck Simulator's new Illinois and Road Trip DLCs are so much fun... I'm especially enjoying tearing through the streets in a Crown Vic after work every day. I can't wait to see what customizations they add down the line Also - Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights is a hidden gem for the 360... 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Time to hack around missing C11 support the wrong way... :) Let's see if this gets Python 3.11 building on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)! 011
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I'm now starting the post-VCFMW testing :) yesterday I got the show network back up again, so it's time to make sure things still come up and get updates installed on the few things that can get them! 000

Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 12/09/2026It's almost time for #VCFMW day 1! I'm so excited to see what the day brings today :) 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Oooooh remind me about this next time we chat because I can go into SO MUCH DETAIL!!! We can talk about the Windows memory manager, Vulkan, the game engine itself, and the GLSL/HLSL layer that handles the texture conversions! 000
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Day -1 complete... and it was a blast! Spent some time with @r-12.net and my friend Eric and got stuff going (for the most part...), and I'm really excited for tomorrow!!! 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Dawn of the final day of prep... its setup day! Starting the day off with a last minute round of updates on the Gentoo machine and the BSD VM, and hunting down some mouse pads. Then its time to load up! 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Just Tru64 updates and the spare IBM NetVista left to go for the show... the Pro/350, Venturis, and Celebris were all very well behaved and worked pretty much on the first try (even though the Pro/350 was off since the last day of the last VCFMW...) Looking forward to getting everything setup tmrw! 011
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Getting the Celebris and Venturis tested for #VCFMW! 031
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I'll be there this year! Over at tables B415/B416, we'll be showing off some DEC terminals and workstations! 011
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I got the GNU toolkit working on Tru64 and it's sooooo nice to have bash and an extremely early version of GIMP running... the Mozilla suite as well as Netscape work too Come stop by my exhibit at VCF and try it out! I'll post some pictures afterwards for anyone who can't be there 000
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Time to get the rest of the Tru64 system setup!!! 020
Reposted by Doug RenoKen @kenfager.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Getting my #VCFMW wardrobe ready. Sunday at 11am I am presenting on the GameBoy Camera. Don’t miss it! 0164
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 07/09/2026I really enjoy working on Tru64... especially with this UI for SysMan (which is even nicer if you're logged into CDE) It's time to get some user accounts setup for my co-exhibitors and then start getting the Associated Products CDs and patches installed 000
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Some huge success today so far... I was able to finally get Tru64 to cooperate on my show network! Now it just needs the final update kit and a few extra programs and it is ready 001

If you're like me, it's hard trying to remember where everything is, especially with VCF taking up the ENTIRE expo hall this year. So I made this tool last night: geerlingguy.github.io/vcfmw21-map/ Now it's a lot easier to find exhibitors! #vcfmwgeerlingguy.github.ioVCF Midwest 21 — interactive table guideInteractive floor plan for Vintage Computer Festival Midwest 21. Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Come visit us at #VCFMW this year! We'll be at tables B415/416 with some DEC terminals and computers (including the 1970 DEC VT05!) and we'll have some Windows boxes to play games on as well (and to interface with the other boxes) The legendary Garfield phone returns as well for another year! 031
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 01/09/2026The VT05 turns on after some repairs and has a blinking cursor!! It still isn't very interested in responding to keyboard input yet, but that'll come another day... 000
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Tearing into the VT05 tonight... I'm so excited, going to try the first power on tonight since everything looks in good condition at a glance with the exception of some expired foam and nicotine tar from its last home This is the cursor control board, just finished cleaning the other three 000
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 29/08/2026Setting up a FreeBSD system for the first time today since it's a lot easier to configure to work with my VT05 (I don't want to have to modify stuff with 'stty' on every boot), and it's been really interesting to work with so far. If it sticks, it'll run on the IBM xServe I'm bringing to VCFMW 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 29/08/2026I want some of those soooooo bad right now, that sounds amazing... 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 29/08/2026Today's goal: Finish the Precision 530 so I can repair the DEC VT05 tomorrow for #VCFMW - just need a handful more games installed and then I need to defrag it and take an image. This one goes to Eric Hanchar's "Divisive Dells Now w/ 100% More Dells!" this year! Bonus goal: catch a nap before WoW 000
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Tomorrow I'm going to be mostly working on the Precision 530 that's going to another exhibit at VCFMW since it's replacement GPU should be in, so that honestly works well :) 020
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 26/08/2026The way that Trainz Simulator handles patches is insane, the forums suggest that they may take 2-8 hours *a piece* for the 2010 and 2012 versions... They decompress 1+GB files from both the patch installer *and* the installed files, run comparisons 1 file a time, and then recompress the 1+GB files! 120
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 25/08/2026After reworking some solder joints on the analog side of the VT420, it's functioning much better! It'll be ready for VCFMW after a good dusting :) 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Another day, another eBay purchase... this time an AGP graphics card. Tomorrow though the keyboard for my VT420 comes in so that's exciting :) 120
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 22/08/2026The journey to get things ready for VCFMW this year can best be described as... fix one thing, two more break... After some time in the basement today and tomorrow though I should get on the other side of it :) 020
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I've heard so many good things about that one, I'll pick it up at some point :) 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 22/08/2026A solid 10/10, extremely cozy. I've been starting to see the appeal of Macs as I have been forced to use one for the last two months now at my new job... they're really nice and tend to stay out of your way while you're doing things. You should post what you draw! 110
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 21/08/2026By far one of the best games out there, it's really nice to see more people playing it! 020
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 21/08/2026One of my coworkers at my new job recently says "Can you share a source with me? I'm curious to learn more about how you discovered this and what else there may be to know" and to me it's one of the least smug ways to ask the question that I've ever heard... it's friendly while also being concise 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 09/08/2026OH MY GOD!!! I'M SO EXCITED FOR BOTH OF YOU!!!!! 020
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 29/07/2026THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE STATS LMFAO I'm so glad someone is tracking it and making it available. The technology involved in recycling it is incredible 020
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Some more fun for VCF Midwest this year... getting XDMCP working correctly off my 2004 Dell PowerEdge 2850. That is going to be performing a wide variety of background shenanigans at my table... including a guestbook and driving several terminals and Xdmcp sessions on the DEC PCs 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 19/07/2026This poor 486... just #LegacyUpdate development activities :) 020
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 12/07/2026YAY THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO HEAR!!! I'm sorry I'm not on Bluesky as much anymore though 010
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 12/07/2026This is one of the most relatable things I have ever read on this site... on Mondays and Thursdays, my workday starts at 8am. Outside of that I try to start at 10:30am to get those extra two hours of sleep because for some reason that two hours of sleep is what prevents me from being a zombie 110
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 11/07/2026HEYYYY!!! Thank you for adding me back! I would love to catch up with you more soon as well 110

Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 27/06/2026By far one of the best movies ever made... I'll have to get a rewatch going later and maybe play the PS2 game again 031
Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 11/06/2026I remember playing it a LOT when I was around 10 years old, would've been around 2008 I think! Shockwave Flash was a whole era... 110

Doug Reno @godkiller1242.bsky.social · 02/06/2026I've got a loooot of thoughts about the Sims 4's engine and the fact that its just a slightly more advanced copy of The Sims 2/3's engine which means it doesn't perform multiple file accesses at one time... because they'd have to properly implement multithreading into the engine to do so 010
