Took my 16 and 11 year olds to a record shop that's been open since I was in middle school. 16 year old got two obscure records for her new record player she got for her birthday. 11 year old picked a CD for her Hello Kitty CD player she never uses. Both are now in their rooms listening to music.

Being a teacher in Texas is damn near impossible. I have to have the 10 commandments in my room, students aren't allowed any phones (this is good and bad), and I'm not allowed to have any discussion about gender or sexual orientation (I've always been a safe place for my students). I hate it here.

The international bridges from Juarez to El Paso are currently closed and being blocked by police and military as a “precaution.” It’s a three day weekend. A lot of my students went to visit relatives in Mexico and will be heading home today. I guess I should expect a few absences tomorrow.
