goat @goat.horse · 30/09/2026I relate to this so much, every time I pick up that world I was working on I look at some U# and the way everything Udon is just the mostly flimsy shit on the planet and all motivation immediately leaves my body 101
goat @goat.horse · 22/09/2026I've seen all of your videos on displays and it's also the first time I really noticed it and thought "wonder what rig they used for this shot". Looks nice, maybe it's because it lingers a little more and is at more of an angle! 100
goat @goat.horse · 16/09/2026On Chrome, the built-in passkey mechanism wants them to be stored on your phone instead. That's more than good enough for most people, even though it's also synced through a Google account. The real benefit is that it's impossible to phish passkeys either way 020
goat @goat.horse · 16/09/2026The passkey being TPM/secure element based solves this problem, if you need to provide a factor such as biometrics to unlock it, so OS-provided passkeys are generally safe. Password manager passkeys are just as unsafe as storing your OTP secret in your password manager and they should tell you so. 120
goat @goat.horse · 09/09/2026I think the general experience of using the SDK is great and the actual conversion is pretty good, requiring very little tweaking to get the same basic look (on liltoon and poiyomi). They were all happy to give it a shot and I don't think it's far to "just works" for basic conversions :) 000
goat @goat.horse · 09/09/2026I recently tried to get my ~10ppl VRC weekly to try Reso and most of them had a lot of issues with the SDK that were all ticketed already. I think these ones were most critical: - Conversion only functioning once (108) - Various issues setting up viewpoints/near clip (115, 107) - The OOM issues 110

goat @goat.horse · 12/08/2026Dalamud has some basic sandboxing for power users now! I really just built this for myself so it doesn't have any bells and whistles, but we might pick it up in the future and try to figure out the UX problems that make it difficult to use github.com/goatcorp/Dal...github.com 2165
goat @goat.horse · 10/08/2026Also it sucks and everything of note I achieved in my life I have by explicitly not gatekeeping and relying on other people not gatekeeping, so that's a bummer, I feel like other folks deserve that and might not get the chance 060
goat @goat.horse · 10/08/2026There's a voice inside me that wants to respond to this kinda thing by gatekeeping more and I can see why other people choose to, but I can't help but feel that it's too late for that now 150
goat @goat.horse · 10/08/2026I really didn't expect the immediate impact of AI on me to be "every single person on the planet with a PC and a shitty idea can now make it within half an hour" instead of "flood of bullshit PRs that I have to sift through" as everyone told me would happen 190
goat @goat.horse · 24/07/2026I went in without knowing that they existed and had an amazing time, probably altogether different than if I had known anything about it, so you should totally give it a shot! 110

goat @goat.horse · 17/07/2026I'm sick and I keep having this dream where I sit next to Lenny from the Simpsons on a flight, and I go "Not Lenny!!" and then he gets upset because apparently everyone says that when they spot him in public 240
goat @goat.horse · 13/07/2026Sorry about that. We were getting a lot of questions and some folks that weren't exactly interested in having productive conversations, so I think mods started shutting conversation about this down with links to our documentation. I'll try to bring it up! 150
goat @goat.horse · 13/07/2026It's a hard call to make, but at the moment, we think the harm reduction that would be achieved by doing such a block would effectively amount to nothing, while setting a dangerous precedent for the way we interact with the custom repository ecosystem. 1160
goat @goat.horse · 13/07/2026The mechanism is only really designed for developers to retract faulty versions of plugins that cause crashes. Using it for anything more than that would not amount to anything more than virtue signaling, in our opinion, and lock us into a cat and mouse game. 1160
goat @goat.horse · 13/07/2026This is exactly what happened with the Chinese version of Dalamud (maintained by a separate team). Someone already threatened to do this to us when we introduced new rules for AI-generated plugins! 1210
goat @goat.horse · 13/07/2026If you follow plugin development, you probably know that we have a rudimentary system to "block" plugins. We have never used it to block rule-breaking plugins, for a few reasons: You can easily disable it, it would probably be 20 minutes of work to make an "unlocked" Dalamud distribution. 1242
goat @goat.horse · 13/07/2026It's annoying to write a post like this, since safety is really important to us, but it's sadly out of our hands at the moment. Let's hope that we will get a proper fix soon! 1200
goat @goat.horse · 13/07/2026We posted a small update on account IDs and "character database" plugins: dalamud.dev/news/2026/07... goat @goat.horse · 12/07/2026They don't feel like they were ripped off, same with their phones. It makes sense in a way, they don't want to bother with a new thing and they are so cheap, it doesn't matter, but it feels odd to me because I know tech doesn't wear out in that way usually, people just make it shitty. 1110
goat @goat.horse · 12/07/2026Something that is completely foreign to me but seems to be common for older people like my parents is that tech "breaks". Their original Google TV from 4 years ago became unusable (updates, ads? key presses took 20 seconds to react) and they just said it was "broken" and bought a newer one. 2110

goat @goat.horse · 14/06/2026"Sane" C++ feels like an actual option to me for this. No exceptions, no rtti, minimal templates, using modern safety features where possible. But that assumes you want to write C++ and knowing what parts of the STL are stupid is kind of a skill by itself. 120

goat @goat.horse · 13/05/2026I would absolutely use something like this! Have thought about building it for my own projects, but I don't want to host my own CI at the moment. Considered bodging it with GH actions but it all seemed like a hack. 010
goat @goat.horse · 13/05/2026I think not having to upgrade if you only use our APIs alone could be a win, not sure how many plugins this would apply to. The calculator plugin that only uses ImGui shouldn't need to upgrade every patch, but maybe it wants to read item prices or something and then you need Excel and versioning. 030
goat @goat.horse · 13/05/2026I think this would hurt a little bit in that it's a lot of unrealized potential, and plugin devs couldn't make use of the capability for versioning their own APIs (and would have to continue messing with IPCs), but it might be worth the tradeoff? 040
goat @goat.horse · 13/05/2026On top of complexity, it would also take a lot of work and time to implement and probably cause some friction initially. My question would be: is it dire enough for us to scope this down into something more manageable? I.e. just managing game and Dalamud API as versions, to reduce breakage. 150
