A quick glance into the Hurdat2 dataset suggests that Rachel and Simon are about to become the first pair of named storms to come ashore on the same day in the Eastern Pacific since continuous records began in 1949. A pair did it in 2011, but one was a Tropical Depression that was never named.

If you lose power during Hurricane Isaias and use a portable generator, remember to run it at least 20 feet away from your home. Never run a generator indoors. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas you can't see or smell and it can kill in minutes.

One portable generator with an equal sign next to a lot of cars. The text reads: one portable generator can produce as much carbon monoxide as hundreds of mid-size cars. Only use your generator outdoors and 20 feet away from your home.

Query for grown-ass adults who take a multi-vitamin on the regular: Are there ANY out there that don't cause nausea? (Doesn't matter if I've eaten, not eaten, taking with food, etc.) The only ones I can tolerate are the (gelatin-free) gummy ones, but I feel silly taking a gummy multi-vitamin...😅👍

On a positive note, once it makes landfall, it may bring beneficial rains (and a break in the sweltering heat) to the SW United States. It's due to interact with a deep trough in that area, so it could be very interesting, meteorologically speaking. Will need to watch out for flash & urban flooding.

For those wondering, the system formed on 27 Sept, became a tropical storm later that day, and reached a maximum intensity of Category 3 (max winds 120 mph, central pressure 950 mb) on 1 October. The system is currently forecast to make a sharp right turn on Friday and make landfall Sunday.
