Gneiss @gneiss.name · 8hWent for a walk in the woods and found some great mushrooms. Really like the red/orange agaric. Wonder if it’s a pH thing that controls how red they get. 0171
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 01/10/2026It’s looking good. I’m recording a quick video about it but the major colors on the blocks are not duplicated by other blocks. 020
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 30/09/2026I might have exported all the assets from Minecraft Dungeons 2 and make a java resource pack. 2371
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 26/09/2026Thank you! Yes, so I’ve played dwarf fortress once, and intended to play more. I have an idea for a video but it will take time. Since this is a hobby after the rest of life is done with me, it’s hard to find time for everything I want to do. 121
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 26/09/2026Do I need to make paper cutouts of ore blocks for 1 min segment about copper and ore? No, but here I am. 2340
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 22/09/2026Visited a banded iron formation which had a fault in it that was filled with pyrite. I know where the iron came from but I wonder about the sulfur. 6666
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 12/09/2026Thanks, this is one of those late in the game displays where I have words in a script but no visuals and it works off an earlier display in the episode so I'm very pleased with it. Helps to tie some concepts together. 040
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 12/09/2026Working on the copper and gold episode. Draft visual for carbonate hosted replacement where acidic copper laden water is neutralized by moving through limestone and the copper is deposited in the rock. Usually malachite or azurite though, not the apparent native copper ore that Minecraft has. 1504
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 29/08/2026Definitely going to change color and scales and background but its cool to see the Goldschmidt classification of elements visualized this way. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldsch...en.wikipedia.orgGoldschmidt classification - Wikipedia 080
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 29/08/2026Always wanted to talk about elemental abundances in the solar system / bulk earth / crust so I'm forcing it into the gold and copper ore episode. This is a draft display showing changes between crust and bulk earth for each element. The bars are log abundance change. 2352
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 27/08/2026I held a meet and greet during Smithed Summit 2026. Went through about 4 pages of questions from the audience. For those that missed it, here is a recording. youtu.be/pE9ypoJiHQEyoutu.beGneiss Q & A at Smithed Summit 2026YouTube video by Extra.Gneiss 0201

Gneiss @gneiss.name · 09/08/2026I built a 6 minute animated version of earths history inside Minecraft for a virtual conference called Smithed Summit. It’s free and open to the public, running to the 22nd and I’m doing a meet and greet today (Aug 9th) at 4:30 CST. youtu.be/55mDIzfgrBU?...youtu.beGeologic Time at Smithed Summit 2026YouTube video by Gneiss Name 1272
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 15/07/2026Yes! I have spoken with the devs of ArdaCraft, we had a meeting about world design and I outlined a script for an episode while I was on vacation. I think it will focus on the time it takes to create a world at different levels of fidelity. 020
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 13/07/2026A year ago I made a video about mountain scales and I pronounced Mt. Kosciusko as the Australians do, and not in Polish. Imagine my surprise while visiting the royal castle in Warsaw and randomly seeing the literal heart of Tadeusz Kościuszko, whom it’s named after. 0240
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 01/07/2026I visited the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland and I knew there was a lot of sculptures done in the salt but I wasn’t expecting a statue of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who did many things but also who the mineral Goethite is named after. 1312
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 24/06/2026Smithed Summit 2026 is coming and I was interviewed with some of the other booth vendors. The event will be running from Aug 8th to the 22nd this year. Excited to see everyone there. They are still taking applications for events if anyone is interested. youtu.be/bpwh5BLSvWo?...youtu.beSummit 2026 | Meet the VendorsYouTube video by Smithed 061
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 09/06/2026Cut up a piece of carbonate rock today that was mostly a mix of iron/magnesium/calcium carbonate but it also had some malachite in it. I like the mix of colors. 0546
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 03/06/2026And to clarify, chalcopyrite is not gold ore but is a common host in modern mines. 0180
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 03/06/2026I’m working on making some real life Minecraft blocks for a video and decided to use chalcopyrite as a raw gold. It’s always shown as iridescent but that’s just the patina. The fresh surface is similar to pyrite and other sulfides. Let’s see how long it takes to change color. 3524
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 18/05/2026So each is not random but the order they occur in is. It’s possible to do it entirely random but that’s a lot more complex to do all the math live in game. 000
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 18/05/2026Made a function file will all of those triggered by /execute if score matches x. The first line of that function does /random and saves that score. Each impact is a separate function that is /scheduled at the appropriate time. 100
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 18/05/2026Absolutely. A few dozen bolide and impact trajectories are precalculated. The meteor uses the trail particle which lets you define a start, end point, duration and color. I generated a set of start and end points with a range of travel times. 110
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 18/05/2026Fun fact! Angry villager particles work well as impacts for a small scaled version of the Late Heavy Bombardment. 2643
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 16/05/2026I’ve never planted rainbow chard before and was very surprised to learn the roots are also colorful. So cool. 1403
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 08/05/2026Very cool, on of my initial ideas for the world download was to have selectable color spaces but it was just too expensive. It barely runs how I have it now. 020

Gneiss @gneiss.name · 07/05/2026I was curious what a video’s color would look like animated frame by frame in a color space. So I did that, but also in Minecraft. Movie Color Animations youtu.be/7mArP3bdar4youtu.beMovie Color AnimationsYouTube video by Gneiss Name 0263
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 19/04/2026Since I use a lot of display entities and animate blocks I need to know how many I can reliably do at a time and there are many ways to manipulate the entities once you have them. I build a little benchmark world and plan to add onto it over time. Entity Manipulation Benchmark youtu.be/Rc83yr5eeDMyoutu.beEntity Manipulation BenchmarkYouTube video by Extra.Gneiss 0201
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 11/04/2026With the first sulfur cave snapshot out, I did a quick video looking talking about real sulfur caves and how you find those minerals in real life. Sulfur Caves, A Quick Look youtu.be/Col0ApUB68Eyoutu.beSulfur Caves, A Quick LookYouTube video by Gneiss Name 0284
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 07/04/2026Ha! I was right, the lichen spam in the revel seems to have been just a video presentation thing. You can get away with much brighter colors in the dark and still keep a distinction between blocks. The Java Snapshot today doesn't look like ketchup and mustard explosion. 2420
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 04/04/2026Smithed Summit 2024 was an amazing event all held within vanilla Minecraft and I met so many great people. I am planning to have another booth at 2026, for which applications just opened! Check out the short trailer if you are interested too. bsky.app/profile/smit... 0130

Gneiss @gneiss.name · 29/03/2026I used some native sulfur that I collected in the Vintage Story video but since I’m going to be talking about it in a bit more depth when the Minecraft sulfur cave snapshot comes out, I decided to buy a flashier piece. 2655
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 26/03/2026Looking forward to playing around with it when the snapshot is released and I’ll probably make a video about it as well. 0200
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 26/03/2026I wonder how much Mojang increased the lighting in the sulfur cave revel. You can tell they were doing some things with brightness past just the “bright” gamma setting in game. Maybe adding more glow lichen than normal just for watchability. The bright colors will look better in the dark 2361
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 25/03/2026Not trying to self promote here but I do think that since the game has so much to talk about geologically it’s not a bad idea. My two videos basically became an intro to geology and economic geology. Like, if I was just teaching there isn’t much else that I would cover. 110
Gneiss @gneiss.name · 25/03/2026After a few hundred hours in game and many more in writing/recording/editing, my geologic review of vintage story is complete. Now I can actually play the game. -_- youtu.be/2D8y68Zf7Uoyoutu.beGeologic Review: Vintage Story, Part 2YouTube video by Gneiss Name 4498
