One thing about people citing slower car travel times on Bloor West following the bike lane install is, well, that was kind of the point. Drivers were **averaging** nearly 20 km/h over the current speed limit at spots. Road revamp has brought speeds closer to limit. www.toronto.ca/wp-content/u...
Two bar charts comparing average and 95th percentile vehicle speeds in km/h across five Toronto locations over three time periods (2021/23, 2024, 2025/26), with a posted speed limit of 40 km/h indicated by a dotted line.

Shawn Micallef: Feeling a little ‘meh’ about Toronto’s election? There’s a reason to vote anyway
It feels like Toronto is sighing a collective “meh” when it comes to this election. There’s no fire in the electorate, no passion, no spark. Unenthusiasm across the city.

If this was just a prank on Councillor Nunziata, it’s actually deliciously mean because, after 30 years on council, who would bat an eye if she really did retire? It’s weirder if she doesn’t.

Yeah, I really don’t need to keep up with whatever he’s doing going forward. Not my beat, anyway. I think there can be value in Canadaland if he is an extremely hands-off publisher/editor. It remains to be seen, but that’s my hope. Because there is still potential value in what he created.

I think yes, but then volunteers might go a little off script. In this case, though, just based on some of the candidate’s social media posts, I think these volunteers were representing his views.

Oh, for the record, of the people who parked in front of the cafe. The number of them who actually came in and patronized was a big ol goose egg. Zero, zilcho, not a one. This, in spite of the roguishly charming barista working the counter.

I also think they don’t appreciate we’ve basically been in a recession for the last ~4 years. A 30% decline in business isn’t because people can’t find parking. It’s because we’re all broke!

I have some friends with kids, and it makes sense for them to own a car to schlep them and various gear to extracurriculars and whatnot. But they tend to leave the car at home unless it’s totally necessary. I definitely don’t get driving just yourself for an errand or something.

Volunteers for a council challenger came into the cafe. They thought I was the owner. They asked “aren’t you frustrated with the lack of parking here?” I pointed to our patio and said “that’s our parking. We chose to do that.” 😜

It’s also kind of wild that a 20-person patio equals 1 parked car. Cars are absolute hogs for space. And they’re almost always single-occupant.

Yesterday the cafe I work at packed up its CafeTO patio. Immediately, someone parked where the patio used to be and the spot was basically occupied all day m. It made me think of the bike lane removal thing. All those “freed up” lanes will just be parking. It won’t ease car congestion at all.
