I will be buying this book. My cocker spaniel is often a mystery to me.

While Reform UK in Wales are attacking the most vulnerable in society, Plaid Cymru is standing up for Wales’ communities and taking action on their priorities.

Goody gumdrops! It would be lovely to have one in Wales sometime. How about Coleg Harlech, Theatr Ardudwy, or Cwmbrân?

Heaven knows why they brought Carol back. Eleanor Bron played Carol beautifully. There was no need to bring her back in another guise. I am not criticising the actor playing new Carol, but she did not sound like someone in their nineties. Also, a little of Anna goes a long way.

Why is the BBC giving him airtime and not questioning this narrative. Our.problems stem from pandering to billionaires whilst ignoring the basic needs of our society. He is also getting huge state subsidies for redeveloping Old Trafford. Hypocrisy writ large.

Our.problem is that we cater to the interests of billionaires and not ordinary people. Who is he to comment on immigration as an emigrant to Monaco? Similarly, what does he know of UK's supposedly crime-ridden streets from his luxury enclave?

Digon teg! Lloyd George was certainly a 'Welsh' PM, born in England.

David Thomas @glendore.bsky.social · 20/07/2026
Yes, the latter is my favourite pub quiz question. Here in Wales we all assume that Lloyd George was Welsh, but of course he moved to Wales as a child. The UK has never had a Welsh PM.

In Wales we dread an England victory as we still hear about 1966 ad nauseum. I wasn't even born then. Successive UK governments won't allow us to celebrate Dydd Gŵyl Dewi as a bank holiday, but will give them out like sweets if England win a football match.

I chuckled when I read this too. Camilla Cavendish's weekly rants against anything that can be discerned as 'modern' in Britain are one of the FT Weekend highlights for me.

Agree 100% Since Labour got in, you could do a 'find and replace' and just swap the word 'conservative' for 'Labour'. They look and sound the same with the same old mealy mouthed justifications for failure. They are happy to share power and share the same principles- maintain the status quo.

No one from Wales? No surprise. This is emblematic of why they lost the Senedd election. For Westminster, Wales is always an afterthought.

@lesleyriddoch.bsky.social You were brilliant on R4 tonight. Here in Wales we are full of hope and relieved. We hope to follow in Scotland's path. So annoying when BBC describes Plaid and SNP as 'falling short' of a majority. London has not clue about our electoral systems. Grrr!

Yes, and it was very funny. Been a big fan of you since your NS days. I am not a bigot, Stephen, but a gay Plaid member, active in anti racism movements since my student days. I was commenting on Wales being overlooked (until today). It really wasn't aimed at you personally. Ymddiheuriadau!

In fairness,as a fan of the Political Fix podcast, in a recent episode the panel were reflecting upon their difficulty in pronouncing Welsh names. My point was not aimed at you personally but the wider political media landscape. Many journalists can pronounce Dàil and Knesset, but not Senedd.

What the heck? Whatever gives you the idea that my disaffection with London media has a racial element? Bobol bach! In Wales we can have a complex about being ignored due to a massive media defecit that has fuelled the rise of parties like Reform. I am a Plaid member who campaigns against racism.

David Thomas @glendore.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
Yes, I realise that. Here in Wales the name of our institutions, political leaders, and parties are routinely mangled. Yeah, we have a bit of a complex about that in Wales, but it's based on experience. Stephen's comment just seemed redolent of that.

David Thomas @glendore.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
Diolch yn fawr am hwnna! When the names of our parliament and our likely next First Minister are routinely mangled, it denotes a lack of respect and laziness that is widespread in the media. Suddenly the UK media has noticed Wales. It won't last.

David Thomas @glendore.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
Why should that upset you? It's almost like you are saying that programmes produced in Scotland and Wales shouldn't be better? We are obviously naturally second rate in Cymru.

One of the most remarkable achievements in modern political history has been the emergence of "anti-establishment, anti-elite, people's army" parties - committed to "bringing back the nation-state" - that are led, directed & financed by the richest, most privileged & most mobile people on the planet

I used to go to the original stall in Brixton market. It was excellent. I recently went to the restaurant in Cardiff and it was appalling- everything from the service to the quality and presentation of the food was poor.

Why are we so sniffy about soap operas? They are the modern day opera- reflecting how we live, what drives us, and what matters in life. Disclaimer: UK soap operas have become increasingly deranged and fantastical in recent years. Fun fact: longest-running televised BBC soap opera is Pobol y Cwm
