time heals all wounds, but for some wounds, a lifetime isn't long enough.

when aivi asked me to make a song for an album about sexuality, this was my foremost idea: “A Lifetime Isn’t Long Enough” is a tribute to victims of sexual violence.

the vocals i wrote are rather heavy, both in emotion and technique, and i knew it would take incredible determination and vulnerability for someone to perform them properly. i am so thankful for unit333 being the person to do so, for learning how to scream, doing multiple retakes of her own volition, and also performing spoken word for a rather uncomfortable scene during the prechorus. she did amazing.

i hope that our song can offer a window into the emotions caused by this transgression — anger, fear, shame, among others — and i hope that it can provide catharsis for those who are in the process of excavating this trauma.

i would also like to acknowledge that sexual violence is just as much a structural issue. militaries use it as a widespread weapon of war and exploitation that, based on UN estimates, has violated millions of women. thus it is also important to trace this largest source of sexual violence and name the primary culprit:

most contemporary geopolitical conflicts stem historically from western & japanese colonialism, and now US imperialism. aside from the hot wars they have overtly participated in, capitalist states have instigated coups and stoked ethnic antagonisms to destabilize countries and retain domination. we must recognize how these actions have led to conflicts in countries that seem to be internal on the surface, but are ultimately also consequences of or at least affected by capitalist intervention.

the struggle against sexual violence is part of the struggle against capitalism.
