Friday (4): Two trains. Lyon to Milan and Milan to Venice with @andy_puttock First time here. Not too shabby. Wife has vetoed any gondola rides. Hotel by the lagoon. Dinner, quiet drink. Buying tickets for Venezia v Napoli challenging but not given up hope yet. Ciao.

Thursday (3): Old Town Lyon with Marseille based nephew. Warm. Funicular train ride to the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Quiet beer at the Wallace Snug. Travel to and from the ground not great but could have been worse. Met some nice people. Match disappointing. France isn’t our lucky place.

Wednesday (2): Old Town Lyon. Warm. A quiet beer at the Elephant and Castle in the evening with friends. And no European away day is complete without a selfie with this legend. Say hi if you see me today. White cap. Up the Palace.

Tuesday (1). Purley Oaks to Lyon via East Croydon, St Pancras International, Paris Gare du Nord, RER D line and Paris Gare de Lyon. Hard to miss the hotel. It’s the top 10 floors of “Le Crayon” - 541 feet high and I’m on the 39th floor. Up in the clouds.

When #CPFC play their three away matches at Lyon, Brighton & Hove Albion and Beşiktaş it will be the first time in club history that they will play three consecutive games South and East of Selhurst Park. Palace played two such games in June 1971 (Anglo-Italian Cup) at Cagliari and Internazionale.

(I believe) the #CPFC player who holds the club record (and quite possibly the world record) for most sisters married to players from one other club is Bert Gilboy who had three sisters who were all married to #THFC players, namely George Clawley, Jack Curtis and Sandy Brown.

I think the clubs with the biggest claims against City, should the verdict be confirmed after appeal, are the clubs that missed out on Europe by one position. Using the minimum of £70 million for a season in the CL and £20 million for a season in the Europa, the amounts for those nine seasons are:

I wish! We are already the only club in the League with no vowel in the first five letters of our name. Six would be even better! And yes, some papers in the 1850s did refer to "Chrystal Palace" using the alternative spelling then in use.

Re: the apostrophe and QPR, it was dropped mid-season in 1967, between 21st and 30th October to be precise simply because the secretary / programme editor [Ron Phillips] didn't like it and it was dropped as an aesthetic decision.

📘 Name timeline 24 June 1901 — Club founded as Brighton & Hove United. Shortly afterward (June 1901) — Renamed Brighton & Hove Albion to avoid confusion with Hove F.C. 1901–present — Ampersand has remained part of the official name continuously. I never knew they were United before Albion.

Contrary to popular opinion, Brighton and Hove Albion's trophy cabinet is not, in fact, completely empty. Winning three Home matches was apparently considered such a huge achievement for Brighton that Palace awarded the club a cup. So that was kind. #CPFC #BHAFC October 1945

In League matches, only twice before have #CPFC followed a 3:2 Away win with a 2:3 Home defeat. In the Southern League 1st Division, Palace won at Southampton and lost at Home to Luton in October 1914. In December 1987, Palace won at Ipswich on Boxing Day before losing to Reading 2 days later.

Alex Disasi (Chelsea) is the first #CPFC loan player to be sent off in a Home game. Gonzalo Sorondo (Internazionale) was sent off in a 2:2 PL Away Draw at West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, 1 February 2005. Most recent: James Vaughan (Everton) in a 0:5 Away Championship loss at Derby in Sept 2010.
