Today (16 March) is Lithuanian #BookSmugglingDay, marking the birthday of Jurgis Bielinis, the 'King of the Book Smugglers'. During the 19th-century Russian occupation, Lithuanian books were banned. Knygnešiai risked their lives to smuggle 5 million books to preserve their language and culture.
