I want to play this game so I can finally escape the 100% of this Onion poll:

I dunno, there was the one who was into Hitler.
A snippet of the Wikipedia article for Joe Kennedy, Jr (JFK’s older brother and RFK Jr’s uncle who died before he was born). It reads:

Kennedy expressed approval of Adolf Hitler before World War II began. When his father sent him to visit Nazi Germany in 1934, Joseph Jr. wrote back and praised the Nazi sterilization policy as "a great thing" that "will do away with many of the disgusting specimens of men." Kennedy Jr. explained, "Hitler is building a spirit in his men that could be envied in any country."

(In his defense, he did later die in WWII, so evidently he changed his mind. But uh… if Pearl Harbor hadn’t happened, I’m not sure he would’ve. I don’t think any of us want to think about what Joe Kennedy ended up doing in the “Man in the High Castle” universe.)

I don’t think so; not that that woman looks much like Rosa Luxemburg, but she looks even less like Goldman. Goldman’s glasses, for one, were an iconic part of her whole look. An AI might make the glasses look weird or half-melted to her face, but I don’t think it would leave them off entirely.
Black-and-white photo of Emma Goldman looking extremely turn of the century in a dark jacket with puffed sleeves, shirtwaist with a bow around her collar, pince-nez glasses with a chain hanging off them, and a jaunty hat with flowers around the brim.

So the part of the Weschler test that’s most affected by the Flynn effect is the “similarities” section, which is also the section most specific to the WEIRD (Western Educated Industrialized Rich Democratic) way of looking at the world. web.archive.org/web/20140730...
The best way to understand why I.Q.s rise, Flynn argues, is to look at one of the most widely used I.Q. tests, the so-called WISC (for Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children). The WISC is composed of ten subtests, each of which measures a different aspect of I.Q. Flynn points out that scores in some of the categories—those measuring general knowledge, say, or vocabulary or the ability to do basic arithmetic—have risen only modestly over time. The big gains on the WISC are largely in the category known as “similarities,” where you get questions such as “In what way are ‘dogs’ and ‘rabbits’ alike?” Today, we tend to give what, for the purposes of I.Q. tests, is the right answer: dogs and rabbits are both mammals. A nineteenth-century American would have said that “you use dogs to hunt rabbits.”The psychologist Michael Cole and some colleagues once gave members of the Kpelle tribe, in Liberia, a version of the WISC similarities test: they took a basket of food, tools, containers, and clothing and asked the tribesmen to sort them into appropriate categories. To the frustration of the researchers, the Kpelle chose functional pairings. They put a potato and a knife together because a knife is used to cut a potato. “A wise man could only do such-and-such,” they explained. Finally, the researchers asked, “How would a fool do it?” The tribesmen immediately re-sorted the items into the “right” categories. It can be argued that taxonomical categories are a developmental improvement—that is, that the Kpelle would be more likely to advance, technologically and scientifically, if they started to see the world that way. But to label them less intelligent than Westerners, on the basis of their performance on that test, is merely to state that they have different cognitive preferences and habits.

Having done more research 🧐 it appears she is mostly irritated by people who explain the joke. Again, I have to say, blocking everyone who isn’t as funny as you seems like a bad move for someone trying to make a living as a comedian. If everyone met her standards, there’d be no demand for her work.

To which Bethany Black responds: “For me it’s the smug satisfaction as if they’re the first person to think that, and that everyone else is too dumb to get their very clever joke so they need to explain it. It upsets me on a professional level I think”

There’s nothing for you on my TL”

Second post:
“So if you’ve ever posted ‘I call it Xitter (pronounced shitter)’ and you’re seeing this, I’ve not got to you yet”

“Must everything be boring and sad?” asks Perrin Fertha, husband of Senator Mon Mothma, in the Disney+ show “Andor.” He’s a middle-aged white man with shoulder-length salt-and-pepper hair pulled back at the top, and a short salt-and-pepper beard. He wears an outfit meant to evoke a vaguely Eurasian 70s futurism, a three-piece suit styled kind of like a kimono, in heavy synthetic fabrics. He stands in a luxurious white room with gold accents and a massive picture window looking out onto the skyscrapers of Coruscant.

In order to figure out whether selfishness leads to wealth (rather than vice versa), Piff and his colleagues ran a study where they manipulated people’s class feelings. The researchers asked participants to spend a few minutes comparing themselves either to people better off or worse off than themselves financially. Afterwards, participants were shown a jar of candy and told that they could take home as much as they wanted. They were also told that the leftover candy would be given to children in a nearby laboratory. Those participants who had spent time thinking about how much better off they were compared to others ended up taking significantly more candy for themselves--leaving less behind for the children.

Paneer lababdar, the best dish, is back at Spice Affair, the best restaurant. Maybe good things can still happen.
Picture taken from above of a long, thin plate of paneer tikka lababdar, lying on a patio table next to a water glass. The dish consists of triangles of smoked paneer (a mild Indian cheese) brushed with a thin layer of tikka sauce, drenched in a much thicker layer of creamy orange sauce, generously drizzled with shreds of MORE PANEER and cilantro leaves. I devoured it all and it was SO GOOD.

Painting: “Young fisherman’s wife waiting for her husband to return” by Joseph Caraud. A white woman with brown hair mostly covered by a white bonnet, wearing a dark blue dress and white apron, sits by a curtained window gazing wistfully out at the sea beyond. To the right of the big and accurate slogan are four 00’s indie kids, dressed in Napoleon Dynamite chic and looking dreamy, like the 2008 financial crisis hasn’t happened quite yet and all they have to worry about is mastering the ukulele so they can be appropriately whimsical.

School picture of me in… I want to say fourth grade? Maybe third? Little white girl with roughly shoulder-length, straight brown hair and gray eyes. I wouldn’t say *no one else* knows about it, but it’s weirdly obscure given how great it is. It *should* be in the pantheon of Christmas classics alongside “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Maybe it’s more popular in Europe, but in the U.S. few people seem to even know about it. 🧵
Movie poster for “Joyeux Noel” (2005). Against a snowy backdrop of World War I soldiers climbing out of their trenches, three men walk towards the camera: a French lieutenant in a black coat, a German lieutenant in a blue coat trimmed with fur, and a Scottish lieutenant in a green coat. Beside the Scottish lieutenant, on the rim of the German trench, stands a small Christmas tree.

Tagline reads:

On a World War I battlefield, a Momentous Event changed the lives of soldiers from France, Germany, and England.

This is Leo. He is not my cat, but I made friends with him when he was living in a nearby park. In my attempts to get him inside before the weather got too cold, I discovered that I was one of at least five people in the neighborhood looking out for him. One of those people adopted him!

This Christmas season I’m finally reading “A Christmas Carol,” not just having it acted out for me by muppets, and now I feel personally attacked by Scrooge’s girlfriend.
“You fear the world too much,” she answered, gently. “All your other hopes have merged into the hope of being beyond the chance of its sordid reproach. I have seen your nobler aspirations fall off one by one, until the master-passion, Gain, engrosses you. Have I not?”

“That Thing You Do!” A groovy, mid-‘60s-style poster depicts Tom Hanks in a suit confidently standing in front of a rock band (The Wonders) jumping around as they play their instruments, plus the lead singer’s girlfriend Faye (played by Liv Tyler), also jumping.

Despite being prominently featured in the poster, and despite being both writer and director, Hanks himself doesn’t play a big role in the movie. He’s the band’s manager. It’s mostly about the drummer, Guy (who admittedly looks like a younger Tom Hanks).

I was pretty shocked when I saw this map earlier today. It’s great to donate to your local food bank, but it looks like people in New Mexico will be in the most desperate need when SNAP funds run out November 1. Wherever you live, if you’re looking for a food bank to give to, consider one in NM.
Map of the United States, shaded to show which states had higher and lower rates of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) participation as of November 2022. The highest rate is 24%, the lowest 5%. New Mexico is shockingly dark — almost a quarter of its population relies on SNAP, or did a few years ago!

Some other states with higher rates of SNAP participation include: Louisiana, West Virginia, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Illinois.

There is now a news publication where “experts” concede covid is harming immunity, 4 years after my many claims.

Apparent lymphopenia is not the only indicator. That is a late and advanced sign. Functional assays like the response to new vaccinations are more apparent indicators.
