About last night. Please donate: seesaw.org.uk/donate/ #oufc
Last night, some thoughts…

An unexpected privilege of writing The Glory Years has been that people allow me to talk at them about Oxford United and sometimes don’t they fall asleep or walk away.

Last night's Mad Dog/Glory Years Florence Park Talk was like #oufc version of The Sex Pistols at the Lesser Free Trade Hall.

Great to hang out with @gingermoods.bsky.social and @jonnybiscuits.bsky.social as always, and to meet @adawsonbros.bsky.social, @daveasini.bsky.social, @martinezra.bsky.social and countless others. I’m just sorry there wasn’t more time to talk.

Thank you to everyone who came up and told me a new little story I hadn’t heard before. I’ll store them away and hopefully get to include them in the 2nd edition.

The Mad Dog boys - Leo and Alex - have been welcoming and generous throughout and have written a truly great book. It was a joy to spend some brief time with them talking about Mickey.

Signing books is a strange experience. I hope my scrawls haven’t ruined your book too much. Being asked to dedicate one ‘To Des’ (yes, that Des), was like having an out of body experience.

Mick of Florence Park Talks and Maurice, who compered, made the whole thing so easy. Oh, and Xander of Caper Books, of course - https://caper.fun - if you’re going to buy books, try to buy from independents if you can.

And, for me, very special to see Suzy Lewis, Mickey’s wife and an old family friend, but who I hadn’t seen for over 20 years. Plus, Zach, of course, who hung in there to the bitter end.

Man, what a club.

It was all in aid of Seesaw, supporting young people and children who have been bereaved. If you can afford to, please chuck a few quid their way: https://seesaw.org.uk/donate/
