Jacob's an exceptional artist imo. Saw them live for the first time earlier this month at the first of two sold-out nights at Glasgow's Mackintosh Church. Live, at least as- if not more- spellbinding.

No, it was a coincidence, but the youth band of Skye happened to be nearby while they all left the church and this happened! Just wonderful!

My late father worked for BEA/BA at Renfrew Airport-which later moved to Inchinnan- and took the original ferry to work and back from the mid 60s to the early 80s. I wonder if your aunt sold him his ticket!

AI is indeed here to stay- I believe it can bring huge benefits but that said, copyright theft is an issue that needs to be properly addressed. Nick Clegg stated that the admin involved in seeking permissions from creatives to use their work without payment of consultation is unworkable. I disagree.

I've tried, Joe, really. Seen him live 3 or 4 times, first time in the Apollo sometime last century. It's not the songs, because some are sublime...it's a kinda lack of personal connection to the artist somehow. A couple of encounters over the 45 years kinda reinforced that.

110

Gill Maxwell @gillmaxwell.bsky.social · 25/04/2025

Ach Gerry I gave up trying to analyse why I like a piece of music. It's just instinctive, isn't it. And so great when you discover something amazing that's new, for me most recently that's been Corto Alto and Jacob Elon. And so much vintage stuff The Captain, my partner, unearths. 😄

1972, Reading Festival. Vinegar Joe were a popular live attraction, but the front duo of Elkie Brooks & Robert Palmer didn't bother the charts until they both went solo. Guitarist Pete Gage became a successful producer & other plank spanker Jim Mullen formed jazz funkers Morrissey Mullen

Robert Palmer's barely been off my turntable since his work with Little Feat. I'm still not over Sneaking Sally tbh.🙂

Gill Maxwell @gillmaxwell.bsky.social · 01/04/2025

A veritable hotbed of talent, Vinegar Joe. I was 16 at that time, never saw then live but a few years later I saw Morrissey Mullen live a few times. Oft quoted as inspiration to Scottish funk/jazz artists coming through in the mid 70s such as Cado Belle, Chico and Croppa. Oh and Kokomo.
