Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Shout out to everyone else who's working really hard on not responding to compliments with an immediate refusal of anything positive, and instead opting for the revolutionary phrase - and you may not have heard it in this context - of "thank you". 000

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Back in the 1840s when railways were new, the time (ie when is 1pm) varied between cities - which became a problem as travel times sped up. A data problem because of new tech! It took SEVEN YEARS to standardise time/data (GMT) across the railways. Implementing change has always required patience. 000

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Was at a talk last night by Jocelyn Bell Burnell who is an incredibly smart, experienced and respected physicist, and I really noticed how comfortable and quick she was to say she didn't know or that something was out of her field. a) it doesn't make her less clever or important and b) its classy af 010

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 14/09/2026The quote "weak messages create bad situations" is a great Product quote which I wish I could claim I heard from its author David Shrigley, but I actually got it from a Matty Healy tattoo. 000

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Some days you fear you have neither the brain nor capacity for the PM role, and then in a conversation you instantly recall the intricate details from a dev ticket created two months ago and you realise you may not be a walking disaster after all. 000

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Please know that every roadmap I've ever worked on began with with me mainlining popcorn like a gerbil and listening to a depressing female singer-songwriter on repeat. You're welcome for this optimising life hack. 000

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 22/06/2026Always exciting when the office conversation moves from the standard 'what are you having for your tea?' (classic, crowdpleaser) to 'how many loads of washing did you get through yesterday' (novel, seasonal). The solstice inverse of 'are you ready for Christmas?'. 000
Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 18/06/2026Sometimes the PM role has definite overlap with a Mum telling her teenager to call them if they're in trouble, even if they've done something bad, and she'll help them fix it. 000
Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Got our first code bug of the project added to the backlog today and I was *so* excited by it. You know what bugs mean? You're doing stuff! You're trying things! Something is being created where there wasn't anything! (Do not send me this post in the future when I'm in Bug City and sick of it.) 000

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Remain astounded that in the digital industry where people talk knowledgeably about the potential negative impacts of AI (as well as positive), I still see presentations using generative AI for unnecessary ‘fun’ images. Creative jobs are still jobs. Art is work. It’s all the same. 000

Gillian @gilliandy.bsky.social · 02/04/2026Like everyone does, I often have to google the words other people use at work. Today was the first time I discovered they'd just *made it up*. Its not a real word! Which I love and appreciate, language never stops, but is a helpful reminder that the people are literally making things up as they go. 010
