Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 07/10/2026"Late stage capitalism" is the pithy answer here, I think. 000
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 06/10/2026What if my 9 favorite albums are an average of 100,000 songs long each, huh? Checkmate. 010
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 03/10/2026When the central thesis of schools is "make children as useful to capitalism as possible" the game is rigged against the kids, teachers, and families. At no point do we have any meaningful conversations about children's health and well-being unless it is in service to their growth as future workers. 000
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 03/10/2026On this note, the capture of public education by corporate interests brings the misery and drudgery of the workplace into schools to a further extent, and it shows up in a lot of facially neutral practices (bell-to-bell instruction, short lunch breaks, relentless emphasis on quantifiable growth). 142

Check your registration to make sure no rat-fuckery has occurred and, if so, get your ass onto the rolls. www.votetexas.gov/register-to-... Texas makes it a right pain in the ass to vote so be sure to get it right. 157
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 28/09/2026There are actually only five occasions where it was funny when Sideshow Bob kept stepping on lawn equipment: the Great Rakes. 010
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 27/09/2026My official count after the first week is 25 new registered voters. 000
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Kinda lost count, but I think I got another 5-10 today. Turned them in and I've gotta get one corrected. I keep running into older ladies at the county elections office who tell me what a nice young man I am for doing this. Getting all the gramma merit badges this week. 000
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The words "cartel" and "regulatory capture" are both right there, too. 011
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 24/09/2026This happened to me! I moved this summer so when I applied for my new DL, I requested my registration to be updated. I checked my county; it hadn't updated two months later, so I went to the county voting office and submitted a change of address form. 000
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Maybe he was scared and trying to psych himself into it. 100
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Became a volunteer deputy registrar today. Gonna rustle up some votes! 000
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I wonder if this piece reminded you at all of the kind of pre-institute reading we had to do at TFA. 110
Reposted by GiknowbiliErin Vanderhoof @vanderhoofy.bsky.social · 21/09/2026ok because I can't help myself: What happened to NHJ's daughter happens at a lot of schools, black and white, in America! The only way your kid is going to get a "great" education is if you are micromanaging it to an extent that is offensive. Which is why systemic changes are necessary 1849
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Oh I have plans, I just have ADHD and lose track of time sometimes. My Wed/Thu block is discussion time and I give them 20 minutes to do a 2-3 person exchange of ideas before we launch into the full class discussion. Lots of good check-in time there. 010
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Also I have block scheduling so 100 minutes of bell2bell sounds like a Saw movie death trap to me. 120
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I find the "bell to bell" thing to be perncious productivity-maxxing propaganda. Five minutes of connecting time before starting? Better make it 10 if it's a big class. 230
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 12/09/2026This isn't comparable. Out trans girls are already a tiny fraction of the youth population. An even smaller percentage want to play sports. An even smaller percentage are good at it. We are talking about a literal handful of cases and the harm is "some cis girl might lose at a sports thing." 080

Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 24/08/2026One of the reasons why I bought myself a cheap used PC for my room! (That and I hate the Chr*meb**ks which we now receive, useful as they are for attendance and email but not so much for projection of things.) 000
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Not sure if you can swing it using a district computer or what, but there are other browsers that have extensions that, shall we say, make the YT viewing experience more pleasant and frictionless. 100
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 23/08/2026These clowns could have asked me and I would have done a full roast session of Common, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Wendy Kopp before imploring that everyone in the room stop carrying water for billionaires and education privatization. But noooooo they are once again silencing teacher voices. 000

Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 22/08/2026First two weeks of the school year in the books. I've got a student teacher in my class for one period (his usual teacher has athletics at the end of the day, so he comes to me) and I'm finally in a position to be spreading my messy existentialist Type B ways to the next generation of teachers. 010

Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 23/07/2026I am feeling a little better and less angsty, just normal baseline amounts of anxiety. It is surreal to think I am moving away from the place I've called home for 14 years in a few days. 010
Giknowbili @giknowbili.bsky.social · 22/07/2026I am moving on Saturday and I feel like all I've been doing the last two weeks is getting ready and I still don't feel ready.
