Trixie hopes you had a good time writing today. I’ve nearly hit 2,000 words today, which is huge for me. A lot of it is character work, dynamics and setting up for things later. Time to take a nap. #writingcommunity #amwriting

We are so, so small. #Artemis
Looking through one of the four windows of the Orion spacecraft, a tiny crescent Earth is illuminated against the blackness of space and grows smaller as the crew journeys closer to the Moon. Part of the window edge is visible; the rest is darkness. [Alt-text slightly revised from ESA/NASA version]

I had such big goals for writing last week and I only reached a quarter of the way. But I have today free, I’ve had brunch and coffee, and I’m now at my desk. Time to write a whole bunch of words. #writingcommunity

Your somewhat yearly reminder to subscribe to fiction magazines so you, too, can experience this joy.

I've been in a reading slump as of late, which isn't to speak on the quality of the books but more just *gestures wildly*. So I made a decision to pick up my magazine fiction reading once again. The joy I had just experienced. Past me subscribed for a year. I have several editions to catch up on.

So you know that book I was pantsing? The one where I got 12,000 in with no idea where I was going and fumbling through? I found the characters. I found the world. I found the story. And I scrapped the 12,000 words. Time to start fresh with a plan. #amwriting #writingcommunity

Saw Kisschasy, Yellowcard and Good Charlotte last night in Bendigo. 15 year old me is thriving and it was banger after banger after banger. One of the best concerts I’ve been to.

There’s something magical about the exhaustion that comes after a night of seeing live music. I just ate a giant bowl of pasta and I’m now going to merge into the couch with a book.

The writing program Scrivener. At the top it shows the total Project Rune. Below it shows 9,075/80,000 words | 1,748/733 words. This shows where the novel is at as a whole, and how many words written today and its goal. I zoned in whoops I’m so tired I’m going to pass out now

I haven't had the space to write in the last few days, until tonight. I'm very tired. But amongst it all, some words have been written tonight. We also have a project name change - Project Bone to Project Rune. Better aligned as the world has evolved. #writingcommunity

It's going to be so interesting to do. I didn't know this was where the story was going, but then oh no someone was murdered!!! It's been a fun experiment to dabble in. As an outliner for all other projects, I think there is going to be a point where I go ok I have no idea what is next ahh!

In the beginning, this novel was being pants with only two plot points in mind. But now I have reached a point where I have an idea of where I'm going and I've now created the goal posts to mark the beats. It's a fantasy murder mystery! How fun! #amwriting #writingcommunity

Wondering why you should write now with the world the way it is? Have you taken time recently to read a book? Was it a welcome relief? A moment of calm? Of normalcy? Sure it was. That's why you need to write, so your book can be that for someone else. And, of course, you do it for yourself too.

“Miguel and Tulio, Tulio and Miguel, mighty and powerful gods!”

Two main characters, Miguel and Tulio, from The Road to El Dorado. Miguel on the right is wearing a loose red shirt, brown pants, blonde with a beard. Tulio, on the left, is wearing a blue fitted shirt with a brown vest and green pants with a brown vest, black hair in a pony tail. Both have their arms wide open in a proud pose.

It might be helpful right now to remember that collective achievements for the common good are possible. We don’t know the names of everyone who contributed to this and some are probably lost to history. But all of their individual contributions mattered.

Yesterday I woke up feeling like hardly anyone’s reading my work and no one cares. Then I opened an email from someone telling me they loved one of my stories and how important they feel it is. All this to say, let people know when you like their art. Your words can find them when they most need it.

I do not! I have aphantasia. it’s something I have to add in, plotted or not. Mostly in editing passes. my focus in this early draft is making the character arch plausible. I have no idea where we’re going, but I’m taking note! (“Oh that’s traumatic, that’s going to impact them pretty hard lol”)

Second read for the year and I read it in 24 hours. What an absolute rollercoaster, a master craft of fast pacing. Did I predict the plot? Yes. Was I entertained the whole time? Absolutely. I’m seeing the movie on Friday and I’m excited to compare them. #amreading

By having them evolve so far as I navigate my way through to get to the first goal posts, it feels more dynamic. It’s going to be interesting to compare as I’m planning on draft three of my first novel in the coming month. Can’t wait to see!!

While I have goal posts (eg cousin), the character dynamics aren’t planned like they were in the first. I think that does bring a level of authenticity. In my first novel, I had it all down to a tee. In reading back my first, those characters do feel more “cardboard” or pieces on a chess board. 1/2

Brain enjoys line go up. If line no go up, then brain sad. If line no go up for a long time, or heaven forbid, go down, then brain distressed. Therefore, line must always go up. (I NEED a line to go up. Always! I cannot function well without it!)
