The death penalty in the UK was not actually removed from the statute book until the 1998 Human Rights Act. Imprisoning someone for 32 years before execution is not justice, whatever one’s view on the appropriateness of the death penalty.

The EU has delivered greater stability across the continent, greater mobility for its citizens, and a single market that gives Europe global economic weight. An honour to hear President von der Leyen address the European Parliament today as we build a deeper partnership for the future.

Apparently NF does have a very bad memory for faces and names; and also issues with listening.

London's homicide rate hit its lowest level since records began. Yet 40% of the public thought that murders had risen since 2019. That’s the danger of disinformation. We cannot accept it, and to defeat it, we’ve got to put pressure on the social media companies who profit from it.

Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea. Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.

All the people who have voted for Farage have ensured he won’t show up in Clacton for a while. So you can maybe see their point from that perspective!

Have I Got News for You has spent about a lot of time on Sturgeon’s husband this evening, which is fair enough. But less fair when contrasted with the minimal focus on Farage’s cash in the last 3 episodes. Must do better.

While Farage pockets millions as a "reward" for Brexit, the rest of us are left with soaring energy bills, political chaos and a broken economy. He only cares about himself and his wealthy donors. It is up to all of us to make sure he never becomes prime minister.

In the UK, deportation (in legislation) is a term relating only to criminals. Others are ‘removed’. My (not very obvious) point was that the Reform head of policy doesn’t know the law.

Gerry @gerry2366.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
“Deportation” only applies to criminals, so Reform policy must be to criminalise the fact of being both foreign and not comfortably off. The number of people affected surely would be unconscionable even for many Reform supporters.

Maybe the solicitors doing the conveyancing could also do with a visit to clarify their AML due diligence processes. My small contribution to my daughter’s deposit has received rather more scrutiny than NF’s large cash purchases of several properties.

I'm just relieved nobody is talking about how I said I bought a house in Clacton, then admitted it was in the name of my girlfriend, Laure Ferrari, even though she couldn't afford £885,000, which conveniently meant I avoided £44,000 in tax. Please don't share.

A reminder, the security services advised Theresa May Johnson was a security risk before she appointed him Foreign Secretary, they advised against giving Lebedev a peerage, he got one, Johnson misled (lied to you and me) about what he knew about Pincher when he made him Deputy Chief Whip.

Have we woken up in America? The deeply unpatriotic Daily Mail and Sun seem to now be supporting a menace of a foreign leader over our own govt and national security. They are really only loyal to their own vested interests. Which are a direct threat to our own. The routine betrayal is sickening.

This latest piece of corrupt fuckery from Reform was tucked away on pages 1 & 4 of the Sunday Times. So, while media rightly rages about the murky Epstein network, it stays wrongly quiet on the murky money networks that are trashing our democracies right now. Do we wait until the fraud is in No10?
