Please bring this up with Lisa Nandy. BBCR4 only mentioned the terrorism aspect of the crime as an aside in relation to the sentence and only properly covered it on the 6pm news. Today, nothing. It's no longer a news service. It's following an agenda and filling with PR slop. And it's getting worse.

Yes. I'm technically Gen X but here in semi rural West Northamptonshire it's serious. There's a lot of boomers and Xers I used to like who were mildly xenophobic before 2016, then became increasingly Reform supporters, but are now posting Patriot stuff.

Yeah, but now the BBC won't have to mention the 63 year old English man who was jailed today for terrorism in tomorrow's news. Man jailed for 15 years over ULEZ camera explosion | Metropolitan Police share.google/3yrr6tf3cgBE...

Radio 4s PM and 6 o'clock news had loads on the prisoners' release. Yes, it's not ideal, but there was no mention of alternatives or much about the causes. And to bang on endlessly about women's safety when they ignore, or make it womens problem the rest of the time really grated.

This was in the "old days" (20 odd years ago) when vets had paper files and were more tolerant of psychotic cats.

I had a cat who, after inflicting some serious lacerations to a vet and the nurse, had ⚠️☢️ stickers all over her file.

Seriously though, why do "some men" have a problem when they have to use a system built for women? And ask what other men can do to support them and help them to accept the tiara is an essential part of the process.

I understand. It's frustrating that there's no serious questioning of the economics of government. We need to reassess what is valued and what we can afford to do it. Sometimes, we need to ask, "Can we afford not to do it? Not everything that grows is good.

I mean, there's not as much money, it's much broader in scope, and there's less of them. And that's all I have to say, as you just seem as if you want to shout at people even if they broadly agree with you.

Yes. It's something like for every pound invested, you get £4 back in health and criminal justice savings and improved work and societal participation. I haven't seen anything to make me believe it'll get anywhere close. I really hope I'm wrong.

Fine. But I still think the moral and humanitarian urgency of taking children out of poverty overrode the need to save such a miniscule amount of the government budget. Then the world changed rapidly in the govts first month's, yet they stuck to the old ideas. It was a choice.

Gerri @gerbelean.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
The effects of growing up in poverty are life long. The cap was never a saving, but a cost we've barely scratched the surface on how big it will become. The same goes for other children's services that were cut. The Sure Start research shows some of the effects. But firstly, it was morally wrong.

It's really noticeable how these journalists speak with disdain to politicians who aren't right-wing and espouse with such certainty about domestic economics and global politics. There's never even a glimmer of doubt, let alone curiosity.

Gerri @gerbelean.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I'd feel more celebratory about it if you'd done it as soon as soon as you got in. Sometimes, instead of asking, "Can we afford to do it?" you should try asking."Can we afford not to?"

Is there anything about part-time or flexible learning or training 16+? My daughter has hEDS and had CFS when she was 16, so she was unable to study full-time, but there were no p/t options. She's 28 now and about to go to university.

NIMBY alert. Almost all of those people had bought theirs or their parents council houses, and their adult children had to leave the village as not only were there not enough council or any houses to buy or rent, but the villagers objected to any more social housing being built.

I really enjoy listening to your programmes on BBCR4 as not only are they thought-provoking and informative, but they remind me of the "good ol' day" when the BBC valued speech as a means of communications distinct from visual, and when it treated listeners to R4 as intellectually curious people.

Gerri @gerbelean.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Another pattern that I've noticed is that these are sometimes on news bulletins on BBC R4 in the evening. This should have been in the PM and 6 O'Clock News story about Daniel Thomas and refuge numbers.

This village was transformed in the 1940s when the council housing was built. I met people who were born in the tiny run-down cottages that were reliant on a well for water. They were proud of their council houses and were baffled by the incomers who bought and remodelled the cottages.

As ever, it's under local news. Violent English men are so common that they are rarely deemed to be of national interest by the BBC.

I listened, and it was both really informative and thought-provoking. The "free market" shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near Space without a regulatory system in place first. But like everything else, we only wake up to the possible dangers when we start experiencing them.

When I first moved to this village, some of my new neighbours complained that I, an outsider, got a council house for me and my 2 children. We were from the next village, a mile away.

I'm not cutting it slack. Boris Johnson stuffed the board with people who, apart from tearing its heart out, are more interested in setting agendas than broadcasting news.

Gerri @gerbelean.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Probably. The news department has been slashed to bone, and there's been yet another round of redundancies recently. I listen to Radio 4 a lot, and the drop in quality is noticeable.

I used a volunteer driver service today, and I talk too much. He started our journey an "intolerant man," but it turned out we we're both a similar age range and left-handed. By the end of our journey, he agreed that life is better and more joyful when we can all be our true selves.

I don't think they've got enough staff to do it anymore. One of Boris Johnson's legacies. Stuff the board with people who will make the BBC, that we all once respected, something no longer worth fighting for.

I bought a copy in Big Tesco in 2008. I was recently separated, and it was the first album I bought because I liked it, and without considering if He would like it. Fast forward to 2016, and it was my son's revision soundtrack.
