25 years after 9/11, UGA students and first responders gathered at Sanford Stadium for a memorial stair climb honoring the 2,977 people who lost their lives. More than 200 participants climbed 120 stairs 19 times in tribute to the first responders who climbed 110 stories in the World Trade Center.

Chuck Reece, who memorized the Gilmer High School lineup before he could name three Beatitudes, argues these gatherings are the last reliable place where Southerners still stand shoulder to shoulder with strangers. His evidence is a woman in the Gator Bowl in 1980 whose name he never learned.
