We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Larry Pellegrini, beloved mentor & advocate. Larry made history as one of the first openly gay lobbyists at the GA State Capitol, paving the way for generations of advocates. We are grateful to be a part of Larry's legacy, & he will be sorely missed.

A memorial graphic for Larry Pellegrini. The background is a photo of Larry wearing a black button-up shirt. Text reads in the top corner, "In loving memory of," with a large, calligraphy script reading Larry Pellegrini. At the bottom reads, "Honoring a legacy of 30+ years of advocacy, service, & mentorship."

A black graphic with a quote from Jeff Graham, executive director of Georgia Equality. At the bottom is a photo of Larry and Jeff at a group dinner smiling together. The quote reads,

"It's with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Larry Pellegrini. For the past several years, Larry has worked with the Southern Poverty Law Center as a legislative advisor, though Larry's work at the capitol and advocacy within the LGBTQ+ community goes back decades.

My earliest memories of Larry come from his time as a member of Queer Nation and the work they did to fight employment discrimination by Cracker Barrel. Larry’s leadership contributed to national attention to these discriminatory practices and helped to organize multiple demonstrations against the restaurant chain.

One of my favorite memories of Larry was on Peachtree Street outside of the offices of the health department. While several of us blocked traffic in protest of inhumane HIV policies, Larry stood guard negotiating with police for our safety as we were dragged off to jail.

Larry was the first political director hired by Georgia Equality in 1997.

In that role, he helped to mentor me and as we organized a multi-year campaign that led to increasing state funding for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program.

Larry was there as a trusted advisor and friend when I first came to Georgia Equality in 2008– introducing me to legislators and helping to secure funding for our voter engagement work during a critical election year.

Trusted advisor. Mentor. Friend. That's how so many of us will remember Larry: with fondness and appreciation.

Rest in power, dear friend.”

A black graphic with two photos of Larry. At the top is a young Larry wearing shorts and an American flag t-shirt, while holding a sign that reads, "QUEER NATION ATLANTA." At the bottom is a more recent photo of Larry at a rally for gay marriage, holding a sign that reads, "Georgia families can't wait for marriage."

ACTION ALERT: Today, Georgia Equality joined partners in demanding the release of Pauline Binam. Pauline is a 36-year-old Black migrant, survivor of domestic violence, and single mother who has lived in the U.S. for over 34 years. She’s been detained at Stewart Detention Center for nearly 6 months.

Graphic with the headline, “FREE PAULINE BINAM.” Beneath it, the text reads, “Her body was violated. Now she faces deportation.” A smiling portrait of Pauline Binam appears on the left, wearing a pink top. At the bottom, a white banner says “PAULINE’S STORY” with an arrow pointing to the right, suggesting a link or next slide. The background is black with dark purple abstract shapes. Along the bottom are the logos of the UndocuBlack Network, Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP), and Black Detained Lives Matter (BDLM).

Who is Pauline? Pauline came to the US from Cameroon at the age of 2 with her family. In October of 2017, Pauline was detained by ICE at Irwin County Detention Center. While detained, her body was violated by a gynecologist contracted by ICE who removed part of Pauline's fallopian tube without her consent.

#FreePauline

Soon after her experience in Irwin County, she met her abuser, enduring years of physical and emotional violence. Pauline is currently in ICE custody at Stewart Detention Center, where she has been held since December 2025. We demand her immediate release.

We are demanding that the Atlanta ICE Field Office and Stewart Detention Center act now to #FreePauline! We demand that she be reunited with her daughter and receive support for the trauma she has endured.
