I personally couldn’t put off the protagonist stuff. IMO its the most important element of a good story. Leaving protagonist development to happen organically in-writing is a sure fire way to have a script that feels flat in act 2, or, a dull reactive hero. I respect everyone’s process though!

For me its always been the logline. No matter how lost I get, I can always realign myself by reading the logline. From there I develop the protagonist. Their want, need, wound, their internal contradiction, a lot of the Heroes Journey stuff etc.

we all had nightmares about this at some point in our life, right?

Last week, a lightbulb went off and a great “aha!” moment took place. The foundation of the story more or less stays the same, but the protagonist, storyline, plot, and overall tone are taking a massive overhaul. And it’s gonna be SO much better and so much more shootable. Notebook filling up fast.

• PERFECT EXPOSURE (feature film in development) This was a script I started writing 3 years ago. Its a modern day Giallo-Noir, as I like to call it. I shelved it because I didnt like the direction it was going and felt flat. I revisit it ever so often to see if anything new hits me.

• ARGYLE PARK (feature v3) Sat down and really applied some craft to the 3rd draft. Came away with some really big notes that will tremendously enhance the protagonist as well as the overall story. Now just need to find the time to start the 4th draft!

Still on vacation but I’m at the library working on • THE ENGAGEMENT (short film) hoping to post casting calls this week! Tonight or tomorrow is the goal. Beginning to make the shooting script and shot list. Once that’s done I move to storyboard. Still no location yet.

One of my favorite books is Neuromancer. That little tease sure got me excited af. Just hope the casting of Case and all the other principals doesn’t go the teen/netflix/corny route. That hand turning on the cyberspace deck looked awfully young and too “clean”
