Do you conduct annual surveys to monitor your ecosystem of interest? Monitoring structures are built around field survey campaigns, which are too expensive to conduct frequently. So how do we break this mentality and build evidence over time rather than snapshots? geonadir.com/rehabilitati...

Rehabilitation monitoring beyond annual reports - GeoNadir 2026
Across this series, I’ve argued for a shift in how we think about rehabilitation monitoring. I've suggested moving away from snapshots and checklists, and toward behaviour, context, and trajectories through time. I’ve also argued that good monitoring depends less on individual tools and more on how information is combined to…

Friday #flearning: One of the most common mistakes I see in drone mapping is flying too high. And if the altitude is too high to discern detail relative to the features you actually need to map, larger area efficiency is an illusion. If you are unsure about flying altitude, please reach out!

Designing a monitoring hierarchy that actually works - GeoNadir 2026
Across the earlier posts in this series, I’ve argued for a shift in how we think about rehabilitation monitoring. To move away from snapshots and visual checklists, and towards behaviour, context, and trajectories through time. To recap:Rehabilitation monitoring and the problem with "seeing weeds"What does good ecosystem rehabilitation look like…

Monitoring mistake we see all the time. Teams spend thousands of dollars on a drone that can't actually be used for mapping. We are always happy to sanity check your setup before you spend money. A short conversation upfront is much cheaper than replacing the wrong drone later.

If your DEM is offset by 8 cm, your “change” is not change. It’s error. We'veve added a controlled vertical adjustment workflow so you can bring DSMs and DTMs back into alignment before you compare them. So your time series reflects actual surface change. help.geonadir.com/en/articles/...

A lot of ecosystem monitoring is conducted on an annual basis - maybe that's the only frequency that can be afforded, particularly with expensive field campaigns. But how much are we missing, and do our 'answers' change if we used different anniversary months to assess?

Why time is the most undervalued dimension in rehabilitation monitoring - GeoNadir 2026
In the previous posts in this series, I’ve argued that rehabilitation success is better understood through behaviour over time than through what can be seen in a single snapshot, and that comparison to analogue sites provides essential context for interpreting change. There is one dimension that quietly underpins all of this,…

Drone mapping doesn't stop at the orthomosaic. That's just what we call 'pre-processing' - like just putting ingredients on the bench for a recipe. The real power comes from bringing multi-layers together to better understand the environments we are managing. To go beyond the ortho, let's talk!

As humans, we love categories, don't we? Tall / short; fat / thin; black / white... It definitely simplifies our life to put complex data and observations into defined buckets. So here's how you do it with drone data! Think vegetation density - low, medium, high. Or canopy height - shrubs, trees...

RTK, Ground Control Points, and GPS accuracy explained
When using drones to create a map, you have different options to achieve different levels of positional accuracy. The best choice depends on your specific requirements and what equipment you have available to you. Positional accuracy refers to how precisely a mapped location matches its true position on the Earth’s surface. In drone mapping, accuracy...
