There is value in being able to use supermarket fridges as flexible electricity assets - grid balancing etc.

Will not doubt be investigating the feasibility of a pilot scheme which will open for pre-consultation in 2037.

Yep. In the end it would have been faster walking!

My main issue is that I’ve used them 3 times, and twice the destination station has been full. Sent me from Queens St all the way up behind Buchanan bus station to find a free space to leave it. Which cost me about £1 - for the inconvenience!

Of course, this being the Tories they’d probably go for lowering tax rates for high earners rather than just smoothing out the marginal tax rate increases.

Tom Quinn @geologiser.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I think the £100k issue is a real issue. I’ve no problem with increasing marginal tax rates as pay goes up, but going from ~40% marginal rate to ~62%, then back down to 40-45% doesn’t make sense. If it wasn’t such a jump, then more people would take the tax hit and tax revenues go up.

£20 fine was set in 2003, which if it was index-linked would be nearly £40 today. Still a ridiculously low fine and probably never enforced.

It’s still £20 in Scotland, and only payable if a council environmental officer catches you, tells you to turn off your engine, and you refuse.

Totally, there’s a real desperation to try and get AI embedded in everything before the AI companies go bust (or bust-er), so they can crank up the prices once we’re all hooked.

Pedestrian barriers are an admission of failure by councils. A failure to put people over cars.

Yep, had a guy two weeks ago drive really close to me, pointing at this murder strip, while I had a child on the back of my bike.

Our local council resurfaced a road which I’ve been complaining about for years as it has a murder strip painted IN THE DOOR ZONE of parked cars. After the resurfacing, they painted them on again.

Usually gets a shrug, sometimes positive response. It’s an odd one - a lot of people would be appalled if I suggested their kids shouldn’t wear a helmet, but fine to put their kids at more risk so long as the box is ticked.

Tom Quinn @geologiser.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I’m also “that guy” who tells other parents that their kids helmets are posing more of a risk when not secured properly than not wearing one at all. No head protection, with the added bonus of a throat injury!

My average is 45bpm these days, which I put down to doing a lot of cycling in my 20s. I’m nearing 40, and the last decade has been mainly chasing my kids around the place - no endurance exercise other than getting through life in general!

Question for those who haven't been part of the climate movement. Please repost this for a wider response, I think it'll be interesting. Now that the northern hemisphere is effectively on fire, now that climate change is running amok, what is it you didn't get all these years?

You’re asking if it is an acronym or an initialism/abbreviation. Acronyms are when you say it as a word, like NASA. KFC is not an acronym, and neither is KOM in my opinion.

I’ve not watched any of the World Cup yes, apart from the last 5 minutes. Looked boring, so checked Bluesky to see if it had all been boring. At least you’ve made it interesting. Might try this football thing again in 4 years.

When I hired an e-bike in Glasgow, the speed was automatically limited when I entered a shared pedestrian/cyclist street. But I can drive my EV down Sauchiehall St at 100mph if I felt like it.

I’d have zero issue paying for secure parking for my bike. So long as it’s proportional to car charging, and sends the right signals to encourage use.

Best thing for learning to drive is developing that sixth sense you get from cycling round a city. Being able to predict when someone is going to do something daft, and position yourself and others safely.

I’ve been unfortunate enough to meet some of this crowd in person. Speaking about the “kinds of people” that use the bus, and complaining that people can see into their houses! At the same time, saying the buses are empty. Really nasty emails sent to a local councillor about it.

My post was clumsy, I agree with you! I meant lots of people have kids when that wasn’t planned, and some plan to have kids and find it’s doesn’t always happen easily. Planning and following through with not having kids should be applauded!
