I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

And a province with an even older mining legacy. Pictured below is the Penniac Reef Moore shaft, 1911-1915 production, southeastern Manitoba. So, gather your Manitoba-related thoughts and submit an article to this special issue.

“However, last-minute changes in the U.S. proposed terms were unfair, uneconomic, and called into question the reliability of any deal.” Waste of time even negotiating knowing this would happen. Time to build up some arctic infrastructure.

Always good to keep in mind that it does not matter how the fire starts. Fires start all the time, but what really matters is the high heat and low humidity to dry out fuels causing the fire to spread rapidly. And these conditions are increasing every year with anthropogenic climate change.

CANQUA in Montreal was a great meeting of Quaternary scientists working in Canada and abroad. It was great to be able to present results from my PhD and further discuss on-going studies in Manitoba, such as this poster based on work in southeastern Manitoba.

It’s always fascinating to find whole valves of marine specimens in till - a relatively common occurrence in the HBL. I’m sure this Macoma calcarea has had quite the ride. Glaciers are often perceived as these ‘grinding’ machines, but on a soft substrate this is less true.

Yes, we get a lot of “is this a meteorite?” inquiries at the survey. Most often, the rocks are obviously not meteorites. However today someone strolled in with this material. This is by far the densest material that I have ever held. It puts a typical VMS Ni-Cu ore to shame. Anyone?

The relentless 2025 fire season continues to put northern Manitoba communities under siege. Flin Flon, Lynn Lake and Island Lake earlier this summer. Snow Lake and Leaf Rapids right now. It’s terrifying to think how bad this is going to get in a warming world. The Boreal is already feeling it.

It’s a ridiculous letter, I mean the irony is off the charts: “…this worrisome trend can be reversed if proper action is taken.” They ain’t going to like the fire situation in northern MB right now.
