Thank you for being here. This film brings together leading evidence on the dimate and nature crisis, and what it means for the UK. It is designed to be watched together in communities like this one, creating space for honest conversation and constructive civic engagement.
Across the UK, people are now coming together to ensure these risks are property understood, openly discussed, and responded to with the seriousness they require.
A growing national effort
The National Emergency Briefing is building support for a government-backed televised emergency briefing to the nation on the climate and nature crisis.
The initative began at Westminster Central Hall, where more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from across UK society heard directly from senior experts about the scale of the risks facing the UK and the response now required.
This film extends that work into communities and businesses across the country, where people are now inviting MPs to screenings, calling for politicians to support a Parliamentary Call for a televised briefing, and helping bring the film to new audiences.

Seeing the huge storm front moving eastwards towards us, on-the-fly, I grabbed the kids and went #stormchasing. Seen this intensity and scale in places like the US Mid-West and Plains, but not in the East of England. ⛈️

I was hoping to attend the @rgs.org Annual Conference keynote with Professor #JasonArday - as I continue to learn from and support the #DecolonisingGeography movement. I really have no words for my upset and anger for how he was treated. Well done to the RGS for their recent comms about Arday.

Annual conference update

Royal Geographical Society and online, 1-4 September 2026

Following his recent and tragic death, the Society wishes to express our deepest condolences to Jason Arday’s family, friends and colleagues. We also wish to express our solidarity with those geographers in our community who have been affected by his passing and the events leading up to it, especially those from underrepresented groups. As delegates will know, Professor Arday was to present a keynote at the upcoming Annual Conference. He withdrew two weeks ago in the wake of the invasive media scrutiny he was under.
We have been appalled at the treatment that Jason was subjected to by the press, social media and beyond, and the racialised nature of that treatment. Above all else, at this difficult moment we want to foreground the values of humanity, compassion, inter-personal and institutional care, and the imperative to treat one another with respect and kindness; values to which the Society strongly commits.
At the conference there will be opportunities to gather, to reflect and to discuss. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any thoughts or suggestions.

During a prolonged hot, dry spell, a wildfire breaks out nearby. Smoke is visible from the school. A pupil with asthma starts coughing after PE. Another pupil says their family may need to leave home if the wind changes. A pupil with sensory needs becomes distressed by the smell and uncertainty.

A group of pupils have been sharing videos claiming that climate collapse is inevitable and that school is pointless. Another group are sharing content saying climate change is a hoax. A usually engaged pupil says there is “no future anyway” and stops completing work. #safeguarding #KCSIE2026

A Year 9 pupil tells a form tutor they feel guilty every time they use electricity or eat meat. They say adults have “ruined everything” and it is now up to young people to fix it. They have stopped attending eco-club because it “makes everything worse” and a parent says they are not sleeping well.

During a period of drought & water restrictions, a school has intermittent water supply issues. Some toilets are closed for part of the day. Pupils told “go at break” and bring extra water. A pupil begins avoiding drinking so they do not need the toilet. Another pupil who menstruates asks to go home

A pupil who is usually punctual misses three days after local flooding, then arrives late wearing damp shoes and without PE kit. They become upset when asked about homework. A parent has not replied to messages.

It's the 3rd day of a heat-health alert. Several classrooms are uncomfortably hot. A pupil with asthma is flushed, irritable. Another feels sick. Senior leaders consider early closure, but some live in overcrowded flats, temporary accommodation, or homes with no adult present during the afternoon.
