What is my book doing way up there? THE SUMMER OF DEATH @pegasus-books.bsky.social, about the 1936 heat wave, is reminding you to not climb somewhere high, when it is super hot out. You could get woozy, and then: bad things. Kind of a PSA for Los Angeles, in a heat emergency right now. #BookSky

Eating wild mushrooms, like this puffball in my yard, can be dangerous. But you can devour THE SUMMER OF DEATH @pegasus-books.bsky.social, a nonfiction narrative about America's worst heat wave, without fear of being poisoned. Provided you don't have a nemesis looking to bump you off. #BookSky

This weekend I visited William Henry Harrison's memorial and decided to turn it into a social media post. My book, THE SUMMER OF DEATH, @pegasus-books.bsky.social is about America's worst heat wave (in 1936), and has nothing to do with our ninth president, but what the heck. #BookSky #weatherhistory

Glad you approve of the title (or I assume so). Not sure if the Diet Coke thing will land, but it's true! But you may be right about author photos. Most of my expressions, where I try to look a little zany, do end up looking a little feral...

So an author walks into a bar… and tries to create a social media post out of it. THE SUMMER OF DEATH @pegasus-books.bsky.social, is about America’s worst heat wave (in 1936), and, geez, I look a little sauced, don't I? But, honest, I had just imbibed a lot of Diet Coke. #BookSky #weatherhistory

I hope you're being sarcastic. I know that when an em dash shows up in writing, it's supposedly a sign that AI wrote it, since AI writing overuses them. But if we stop using em dashes, AI wins. So, no thanks. I use em dashes when the occasion calls for it, and sometimes -- even when it doesn't.

Lots of talk in the media about how 1936 is no longer the hottest summer, that 2026 is. True but also misleading. As the author of THE SUMMER OF DEATH @pegasus-books.bsky.social, I'd like to point out that there are still many 1936 unbroken heat records. But give it time. #BookSky #climatechange

No need to ever feel bad about getting a book from the library. If the library doesn't have it, but orders the book so you can read it, then the author just made a sale. So you're helping the author, and if you like the book and tell people, you're also helping with word of mouth. So don't feel bad!
