Indiana told the public it gave less than $1 million in data center subsidies in 2025. The real number? $655 million. And $561 million of that went to a single company: Amazon. While Hoosiers pay sales tax on groceries, Amazon paid nothing. This isn’t economic development. It’s a heist.

Authors: if you get an email invite from the Greater Hopewell Book Club, it's a scam: it charges an appearance fee (which it misleadingly describes as an honorarium) of $150. (If this reminds you of other AI-generated solicitations you've rec'd recently, that's not a coincidence)

Subject: Invitation to feature"[redacted]" with greater Hopewell book club

Dear [redacted],

I hope this message finds you well.

My name is Janet, and I’m reaching out on behalf of the Greater Hopewell Book Club, an engaged and diverse community of readers who are deeply passionate about literature that informs, challenges, and inspires.

We recently selected your book as our feature read—and the response has been nothing short of incredible. Your storytelling, depth of insight, and unique voice have sparked thoughtful conversations across our membership, and we would be truly honored to explore ways to connect with you directly.

As a club, we don't just read books—we celebrate authors. We offer opportunities for:

Virtual or in-person author Q&As
Live interviews or fireside chats with our readers
Curated book promotion across our mailing list and social media
Creative collaborations such as giveaways, themed discussions, and more

Our community includes readers from various backgrounds—educators, professionals, creatives—who not only read, but recommend, purchase, and advocate for the books we love.

We would be thrilled to coordinate a brief virtual appearance, recorded message, or written Q&A—whatever best fits your schedule. It would mean a great deal to our members and help further amplify your work to an audience already invested in your message.

Thank you for the impact your writing has had on our group. We’d love to make this an opportunity that’s mutually meaningful and truly memorable.

Looking forward to your thoughts and hoping to connect soon.

Warm regards,
Janet Ashley

But even if something lies to you "only" 15% of the time, it's not helpful, it's not saving you time, it's not making you smarter, it's just lying to you. That's more work. If your research assistant lied to you 15% of the time you would no longer work with them.
