This is all fiction of course, but it reminds me how seriously Asimov considered it and how shallow we can be when we don't even consider it. It is seen as a clean-up-after-the-fact kind of activity.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. This captured thought about the challenges ahead. The portrayal of Star Trek TNG's Data is influenced by this thinking but it is not explicit, & it isn't always followed anyway.

The laws are: 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. (PTO)

I used to read Asimov's speculative science fiction when he was still alive. I was fascinated by his Three Laws. He saw the problems that would emerge with Robots/AI. (He wasn't alone.) Ethics was at the heart of his Robot stories.

I've been unwell for some days (no pity needed) and, OH MY, I can't believe how it's affected my gameplay in #TLD. Twice in a row, I've thought, I'll rest and start 'tasks' when I wake. What am I doing? I just opened the game and don't feel the same way at all - burn the health for awhile! Weird. 😆

Yes, exactly. I use this example now when I get challenged: imagine if Springfield Railway Station and Orion shopping centre had been co-located at the very beginning - combined parking, apartments above the shops, bike access - traffic, car, bicycle demand could have entirely different.

Films tend to transition to games much better than the reverse. I keep thinking that the narrative in games is underestimated by filmmakers. Gamers have usually imagined canon often from hints and sketches of narrative. This can backfire badly if you go outside this.
