Three bills on Monday's Senate Rules agenda — all added Easter Sunday: 🔴 HJR 1089 — constitutional convention 🔴 HB 4440 — Medicaid work requirements 🔴 HJR 1067 — Medicaid expansion escape hatch Oklahomans voted to protect Medicaid expansion in 2020. Two of these bills target that directly.

HB 4440 was filed in January as two sentences of nothing. By March it was Medicaid work requirements headed for an August ballot — with a title that never mentions work requirements, 80 hours, or loss of coverage. Not once.

HJR 1089 would call Oklahoma's first constitutional convention in 50+ years. All 149 delegates? Current legislators. 75 of them could rewrite your constitutional rights once an article is opened. It got zero committee hearings in the House.

Today is Easter Sunday. Today is also the day Oklahoma's Senate Rules Committee quietly added three major bills to Monday's agenda. Constitutional convention. Medicaid work requirements. Medicaid expansion escape hatch. Hearing: 8:30 AM Monday.

SQ832 is the ONLY item on Oklahoma's June 16 ballot. That means turnout decides everything. Here's what you need to know. 🧵

Both sides at last night's forum claimed to be fighting for small business. Supporters: 100+ Oklahoma small businesses back SQ832. Higher wages = lower turnover + more customers with money to spend. 🧵

Supporters say: look at Missouri. Arkansas. Nebraska. States that look like Oklahoma — raised the wage, no catastrophe. "We are not California. We are not Seattle." — Amber England, Raise the Wage Oklahoma 🧵

Oklahoma's motto: "Work Conquers All." Last night, Shiloh Kantz of the Oklahoma Policy Institute said for too many Oklahomans, it's become an empty promise. "The gap between effort and stability is not an accident. It's the result of deliberate policy choices." 🧵

Some numbers from last night's SQ832 forum: 163,700 Oklahomans work full time at or near minimum wage 44,000 are single parents 200,000+ children live in those households 2 in 3 minimum wage earners in Oklahoma are women 🧵

Oklahoma's minimum wage has been $7.25/hr since 2009. Nearly two decades. No raise. On June 16, voters decide whether that changes. SQ832 is the only measure on the ballot. 🧵

Oklahoma's flag has honored Indigenous sovereignty since 1925. In 2020 the Supreme Court said that sovereignty is legally real. Oklahoma has spent the years since trying to shrink it. 🧵

When Oklahoma adopted its state flag on April 2, 1925, the word "OKLAHOMA" wasn't on it. A flag built entirely from Indigenous symbolism carried no English text for its first 16 years. 🧵

Most Oklahomans can't explain what's actually on the state flag. Today is its 101st birthday. Let's fix that. 🧵

Oklahoma's original 1911 flag was red. By the 1920s that was a political problem — the Red Scare made red flags mean communism. So the DAR held a contest to replace it. 🧵

101 years ago today, Oklahoma adopted its state flag. The designer was a woman most Oklahomans have never heard of — and she created it while sewing her own wedding gown. 🧵

Today's hearings are done. But SB 1679, SJR 39, and SJR 47 go to committee tomorrow morning. Emails tonight count. Calls before 10 AM tomorrow matter.

SB 1679 goes to House Civil Judiciary tomorrow. It voids contracts based on "foreign law contrary to Judeo-Christian Western values." That standard is undefined. Every case becomes its own fight.

SB 1439 is in House Energy right now. It bans Oklahomans from suing oil & gas companies for climate harm — including fraud. If they lied to you, you have no recourse in OK courts.

SB 904 is in committee RIGHT NOW. It bans gender transition care at ALL state facilities — even for adults with private insurance paying out of pocket. Emergency clause. Takes effect the moment it's signed.

Two OK House committee hearings TODAY. SB 904 at 9 AM. SB 1439 at 10:30 AM. Senate bills are moving fast and the window to act is closing.

SB 1679 voids court rulings and contracts based on foreign law "contrary to Judeo-Christian Western civilization." It explicitly exempts corporations. Individual Oklahomans don't get the same pass.

SB 1250 threatens a 5% state funding cut to school districts over library content. Oklahoma's schools are already among the most underfunded in the country. The legislature removed the local review process. They kept the penalty.

SB 904 bans gender-affirming care at all state facilities — including for adults with private insurance paying out of pocket. Not a Medicaid question. The government blocks the care regardless of who pays. House Public Health. Wednesday. 9 AM.

SB 1439 passed the Oklahoma Senate 40–7. It bans civil lawsuits against fossil fuel companies for climate-related harms — including fraud. If a company misled the public, Oklahomans can't sue. House Energy hears it TOMORROW at 10:30 AM.

Your locally elected school board negotiated a contract. SB 1884 voids specific provisions of it — not at expiration, but the moment the Governor signs. That's the state overriding decisions made by your locally elected representatives. Hearing TODAY at 1:30 PM.

If you've been watching Oklahoma's session and feeling like something bigger is happening beneath the surface — You're right. It's not one bill. It's a coordinated strategy to reshape this state through a ballot most Oklahomans don't know is coming. 🧵

Gen Xpletives @genxpletives.bsky.social · 30/03/2026
In 2020, Oklahoma passed Medicaid expansion by 57 points. 200,000+ Oklahomans got coverage. HJR1067 would let the Legislature eliminate that coverage if federal matching funds drop below 90%. Sources say it's targeted for August 25. 🧵
121
Gen Xpletives @genxpletives.bsky.social · 30/03/2026
HJR1076 was introduced as a single paragraph. No policy. No amendment. No ballot title. Two days before crossover, a floor amendment turned it into 9 pages — with August 25 written directly into the bill text. The committee never saw the real bill. 🧵

At 12:03 AM, the Oklahoma House voted to let legislators rewrite the entire state constitution. No public delegates. No judiciary. No executive branch. 149 legislators appointing themselves as the convention. Chaired by the Speaker and the Pro Tem. 🧵

📅 SAVE THE DATE: August 25, 2026. Oklahoma legislators are stacking a low-turnout summer ballot with measures they may not be able to pass in November. Three bills. One strategy. They're counting on you to miss it. 🧵

OK's Freedom Caucus follows the "Seven Mountains Mandate"—a dominionist plan to control government, education, family, religion, business, media, and arts/entertainment.

Oklahoma's Freedom Caucus formed in 2024 with just 5 public members—others remain anonymous fearing "punitive action." Led by Sen. Shane Jett with Sens. Dusty Deevers and Jim Olsen as vice chairs, they aim to "keep moving them to the right" with "freedom-centered" legislation.

Cabinet secretaries influence which bills get signed. Recent Stitt appointees: > Dan Hamlin (Education) - OU professor > Clay Bullard (Health) - Involved in $2.6M hydroxychloroquine purchase These advisors shape which laws actually take effect.

OK law gives citizens the right to "veto" legislation through referendum petitions. UNLESS the bill has an "emergency clause." Why do non-emergency bills suddenly have emergency clauses? To prevent citizens from challenging them at the ballot box.

When does the governor's opinion matter in OK? Despite veto-proof GOP majorities, the governor still influences: >Close votes >High-profile issues >Early-session bills >Budget negotiations The real power lies in how and when bills reach the governor's desk.

Why does the OK legislature pass controversial bills in the final week of session? Strategic timing. Bills passed in the final 5 days can be "pocket vetoed" by the governor simply doing nothing for 15 days after adjournment. No explanation required. No override possible.
